Edd Program Reflection
What Worked Well in the Program
The Doctor of Education program with a specialization in Educational Leadership and Management has helped me get to know myself better by reflecting on the culmination of work and experiences on this doctoral journey. It has taught me skills that will be taken with me as I complete my capstone proposal, and into future career endeavors. Not only have I received a better understanding of how to design and develop a capstone project, I have also learned a lot about who I am as a scholar-practitioner.
The strength of this program and what has worked well for me has been the camaraderie and interaction with fellow cohorts, and the fact I have no fears of learning new things. The assignments in the courses enabled me to demonstrate my growth through the program, as well as my scholar-practitioner skills. The learning activities were instrumental in helping in learning the material (assignments, readings, discussions) and the program outcomes.

There was an expectation to learn a lot, but my expectations were exceeded. Since being on this journey, there were several "a-ha" moments experienced. I learned how important it is to know my "leadership voice”. Continuing on with this educational pursuit and my profession, I can transfer what has been learned from this program to strengthen my leadership and communication skills. I also learned strategies and best practices that can be applied in the critical thinking process as it relates to leadership and action research.
Initially, the action research project appeared challenging until I started working on it and receiving feedback from my fellow classmates, instructors and course instructors, in which I truly appreciate. Since working on this project, I am capable of researching and writing in an educational setting as well as professionally.

I am writing on behalf of Titilayo Okoror for Binghamton University Undergraduate Research Mentoring award. I have known Dr. Okoror for three years now as a professor and mentor. My first introduction to Dr. Okoror was as a student in both Global Health and Immigrant and Refugee Health courses. During my time as her student, Dr. Okoror’s course quickly became my most thought-provoking and enlightening classes of my university experience. From her lesson plans, teaching of materials and leading of class discussion, her classes were informative, compelling and most importantly life changing. Life-changing may seem like an exaggeration, however, Dr. Okoror constructs course using interesting materials and allows such comprehensive conversation amongst her students that you leave each classroom with some type of new knowledge that often festers for my days, even weeks and expands your knowledge and typically changes your previous mindset about the way you view a certain subject. I don’t believe many course hold this same type of effect on students.…

As the program started, I soon realized that my enthusiasm was not regarded as positively as anticipated, and that many of the participants didn't share the same drive, interest and values I had for the program. Although my campaign proved successful, my aggressiveness backfired on me, and ultimately demonstrated how challenging holding a position of leadership truly is. What I could not foresee was the level of opposition and controversy I would face as a result. Following the guidelines of my…

Attitudes were solved, manners were learned and works were done mentally. This program has taught me a lot. The things we’ve been crying our lives out for starts from us, becoming cadets. Help is given to the consequences you are to face. Favoritism is put behind and everything is done equally. Bullet for this program, if you are willing to become a man…

Within this literature review two emerging research methodologies will be discussed: Action research and autoethnography. Each of these methodologies has their own purposes, powers and strengths and both differ from other traditional forms of academic research. To gain an understanding of these methodologies, 16 pieces of empirical research have been used. Although two articles are dated back to the 1990s, the majority of research is from the 2000s and onward. This review will begin by discussing action research. First, there will be an analysis of the research platform which will demonstrate the stance, approaches, positioning and history behind this methodology. Second, the role of the researcher will be critiqued which will reveal the researcher’s responsibilities, obligations and functions. Autoethnography will then take the same format as action research. First there will be an analysis of its research platform, then second, a critique of the researcher’s role. Finally there will be a discussion which puts both methodologies into perspective for my own future research. Subheadings will be used throughout the review to guide the reader.…

<I’ve learned so much during this course and have truly grown as a person. I have never really been too open minded. I kind of stick to what I believe and no one can tell me otherwise. My grandma is really the only other person I really believe could tell me something and I would consider what she was saying as being correct. She influenced so much in my life. A lot of my decisions and choices I thought of her first or I would call and ask for her input. Without any extra questions or searching for other possible answers I would believe her almost instantly and go with what she said. During these few weeks I have learned to investigate all possibilities before making a decision so I can make the best one. My pride and my stubbornness also kept me from using critical thinking. Instead of taking the time to really analyze a problem and pick the best way to fix it I just did what I felt was the thing to do. During my time in this course I was taught the necessary steps to take in order to properly solve issues. I plan on utilizing everything I have learned for not only the rest of my academic time with the university of Phoenix , but for the rest of my life in and out of school or work.…
