The Doctor of Education program with a specialization in Educational Leadership and Management has helped me get to know myself better by reflecting on the culmination of work and experiences on this doctoral journey. It has taught me skills that will be taken with me as I complete my capstone proposal, and into future career endeavors. Not only have I received a better understanding of how to design and develop a capstone project, I have also learned a lot about who I am as a scholar-practitioner.
The strength of this program and what has worked well for me has been the camaraderie and interaction with fellow cohorts, and the fact I have no fears of learning new things. The assignments in the courses enabled me to demonstrate my growth through the program, as well as my scholar-practitioner skills. There was an expectation to learn a lot, but my expectations were exceeded. Since being on this journey, there were several "a-ha" moments experienced. I learned how important it is to know my "leadership voice”. Continuing on with this educational pursuit and my profession, I can transfer what has been learned from this program to strengthen my leadership and communication skills. I also learned strategies and best practices that can be applied in the critical thinking process as it relates to leadership and action research.
Initially, the action research project appeared challenging until I started working on it and receiving feedback from my fellow classmates, instructors and course instructors, in which I truly appreciate. Since working on this project, I am capable of researching and writing in an educational setting as well as professionally.
