Poe was born in Boston on January 19, 1809. David and Elizabeth Poe were his parents. Poe had two other siblings, Henry and Rosalie. When Poe’s mother died, the three were separated. Henry was sent off to his grandparents while Edgar and Rosalie were sent to an orphanage. Poe was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. John Allan. Mr. Allan was a merchant,
and a very successful merchant. When Poe was 6, he attended school in England for five years. There he learned two different languages, math and history.
When he returned to America to continue his studies, he began to drink very heavily. People don’t really know how Poe died of alcohol or if he died from it at all. For years it was thought that Poe died of complications with alcohol. Reports say his drinking companions acknowledged that his drinking wasn’t habitual. They went on to say that Poe would go months without a single drink. Further reports say that Dr. Snodgrass tampered with all evidence to make it seem like Poe died of alcohol for sure.
Many still think it to be rabies, because rabies was assumed to be very common in the 19th century. Many think that his got it from his black cat. The doctor’s reports say that he was dead within 4 business days. They also said he was screaming somebody’s name before he died. They also think it to be a disease to be called encephalitis.
My personal opinion on Poe is that he’s a great writer and will continue to be a author to be talked about. He wrote the greatest stories of his time and, to me, in my time.
Poe’s death remains a mystery and I think it will forever. He was a tremendous writer but had many personal problems .
