Edgar Allan Poe Was A Classic Case Of Rabies
Poe lived a very poor life. Poe was very limited on money. He had a lot of family deaths from Tuberculosis. I think Poe died from Encephalitis rabies; the reason I think that is because Poe could’ve got bitten at any time his house wasn’t the best.
Many doctors claimed Poe died of rabies. One of the few doctors named Dr. Benitez said “Poe was not drunk when he died” (187) to put it briefly. Doctors said it was a classic case of rabies (187). One of the reasons it was rabies was Poe’s refusal of alcohol. Poe could barely drink water because they say when you have rabies your throat hurts. Dr. Henry said “Poe had all the features encephalitic rabies” (187). Dr. Henry was a trained professional doctor. Dr. Henry suspected it was rabies. Poe’s
death was due to rabies.
Poe showed many symptoms of encephalitic rabies (187). Dr. Henry and Dr. Benitieze’s and Poe’s symptoms all suggest rabies. Poe was perspiring heavily, hallucinating and shouting at imaginary companies (187) which led to. Doctors say when people have rabies, they will do that. When Poe did wake up in the Hospital he refused alcohol (187). Most people with rabies refuse water it’s called hydrophobia. The rabies’s Poe had affected the brain.
Poe couldn’t have died of alcoholism. He would get sick when he drinks a glass of wine (186) therefore. Poe and alcohol did not mix. Poe woke up in the hospital and refused alcohol (189). Poe couldn’t drink anything due to hydrophobia therefore. When Poe was younger, he couldn’t drink much in his forty’s he almost stopped ( ). Poe couldn’t have died from alcohol because he usually refused it. These are all reasons Poe couldn’t have died from alcohol.
