Write a critical analysis about a journal of the ethical aspects of the counseling profession. The article, Ethics in the Counseling Profession by Jesse Lile, explains the ethics that counselors must apply and follow to manage a successful care plan in an organization or school setting. Ethics and values are both defined in the article as a group of behavioral rules to modify our conduct. The difference between them strives in the format presented. Values influence the way we make decisions about right or wrong with cultural or family influences. Ethics
are a group of rules to modify our behavior as well, but are codified into a formal system which are adopted and can be specific to a group of people or profession. In the article, the author presented them as aspects that informed and affected the decision process made by the counselor. At the same time the author establishes the importance and necessity of a code of ethics in the counselor profession. The code of ethics not only is a guide for counselors, but is their safeguard from government, public, and other colleagues. The article mentioned the following moral principles and virtue ethics as the foundational principles for the code of ethics. It identified the following principals as moral principles: Respect of autonomy, beneficence, justice, fidelity, and veracity. At the same time, identifies virtue ethics as follow; discernment, respectfulness, integrity, self-awareness, acknowledgement, and connectedness with the community. It is only at the very end, when the author mentioned that in using best practices, counselors are not only going by the code of ethics but, fully serving their clients. Is important that practitioners use the code of ethics to help them choose the appropriate course to better serve their clients considering both principles. The code of ethics preserves the integrity and the accountability of the counseling profession.
