Edward Elgar's 'The Snow'
The Snow

Candace Bushnell had said, “Snow was a reminder—— no matter how old you became and how much you’d seen—— things could still be new if you were willing to believe they still mattered”. So what does the snow look like in your mind? To me, a person had never seen snow before, the song The Snow gave me an idea that how does the snow look like. This masterpiece is so vivid that made me immerse in the scene of snow every time when I sang it. The Snow was composed by English composer Edward Elgar in 1894. At that time, Edward was still young, enjoying sweet and peaceful life in a scenic countryside with his wife. Inspiring by the beautiful snow, Edward iconically composed The Snow in ternary form to demonstrate the whole life of

The overall structure and plot of the story plays a part in how Wolff viewed his own life within the characters. It opens with a simple yet intriguing statement: "Tub had been waiting for an hour in the falling snow" (Wolff 1). Immediately, this hook does its job drawing the reader into the story and making him wonder what is going on. In the same paragraph we find that Tub is walking down the street, carrying a rifle and seemingly, shooting the breeze. But then a car comes from nowhere, nearly killing Tub and forcing him to leap off the roadside. Inside the truck, Tub's friends, Kenny and Frank, wait laughing at the apparent "joke" that they had just played. Tub doesn't seem quite as amused, stating, "You could've killed me!" (Wolff 5). Then, the three friends begin to make their way towards the woods to go hunting for…

Throughout Tobias Wolff’s short story titled “Hunters in the Snow” we see how the weather alters the environment around Kenny, Frank, and Tub: affecting what they see and hear. The environment is changing around them, as they hunt they are unable to see any tracks as the snow continues to cover any tracks previously made. The cold, freezing weather and how it distorts the truth throughout the story is relatable to how each character has lied to distort the truth among their peers. First, Tub lies to his fellow hunters that he is not obese because of a lack of self control, rather, he is overweight because of his glands. He does this because he does not want to be judged by those his “friends” however this effort is simply met with laughter.…

War, violent mass murdering used to accomplish political and government goals, hate crimes, acts of violence or harm to individuals with personal differences, and suicide, the ending of ones own life. All of these unfortunately happen on a daily basis and is considered a norm in today’s news broadcasts, but why are these tragic events simply glazedover and accepted as a common part of the news most people listen to while eating dinner? M. J Hardman, a board member of the American Humanist Association, proposes through her work, “Language and War,” that it is the violent language and war glorifying metaphors used in daily life that has made people accustomed and accepting of violence in speech and reality. Martha Kinkade, author of Winter’s Light, recalls violent experiences from her past in Wyoming highlighting Hardman’s ideas that today’s speech is constructed to unintentionally promote the acceptance of violence. Through Kinkade’s poems “Boots, Sugar”, “Skinning”, and “Snowy Milkweed” Hardman’s argument that hostile language is making violence more acceptable is shown through the metaphors and violent thoughts and action of these poems.…

Looking out the front window, the ground was covered in powdery white snow, sparkling, like it had glitter in it. I took in the brilliant sight right in front of me, it was, for lack of a better description, magical. Even the road that had not yet been driven on was covered in a perfect blanket of snow, but something else caught my eye. From where I was standing, it looked like nothing more than a blob of color, but against the world of white in front of me, it initiated my curiosity.…

According to "Snow Day," by Tabitha Walker, water evaporates into the air, and goes into the atmosphere. Next, when dust and dirt combine with the evaporated water it forms an ice crystal. Then, two-hundred ice crystal combine together, and form a snowflake. As the snowflake falls, it continues to grow and take on different shapes. Temperature and humidity also interfere with the formation of a snowflake.…

Fire and Ice is an unpretentious poem written by a relatively famous and well respected author named Robert Frost. Though the poem was moderately short in length with a stanza styled structure, it withheld an immense message that I was able to connect with on a deep and personable level. The focal topic of this piece was primarily about the end of the world, one subject that most of us as a society refuses to shed light on for discussion. Robert Frost has successfully utilized rhyme, metaphor, and imagery as a selection of intense language to create an applicable and true to thoughtful piece of work for his audience to relate to. Robert Frost predicts an apocalypse happening in the near future that is evoked by human emotions of hatred and desire.…

The poem above, based on the poem “Fire and Ice” by Robert Frost, reveals a fear to open up and love after being hurt in the past. Love and trust is represented by the rose, and the thorn represents emotional pain that comes as a result of love that has gone away. When one sees a rose, it looks beautiful on the surface, however every rose has thorns that some forget about and get hurt by. This relates to how love is beautiful and many people strive to keep it in their lives, but betrayal, lies, or death can take that love away. After losing love, it can be difficult at times to open up again because the feeling of pain lingers long after all is said and done.…
