Effective Communication in the Workplace
Effective communication is extremely important in all aspects of life, weather discussing work or personal life. People in organizations typically spend a major part of their time in interacting with people. Effective communication is defined as, “A two way information sharing process which involves one party sending a message that is easily understood by the receiving party” (Business Dictionary, 2015).
And every day, there is something new to be communicated. In order for things to run smoothly, making sure the receiver understands the correct message is vital. Because of this,
89% of US companies give communication training to employees in areas such as team building, public speaking
, presentation skills, interviewing skills and business and technical writing
(Wienclaw, 2008). Throughout this paper I will tell you about a time I recently experienced effective communication in the workplace. I will also discuss the benefits that came about from the effective communication, for not only myself but also the company I work for.
Working at Verizon Wireless communication is a part of my daily life. I am on the phone with customers for 7.5 hours of my day, along with the other thousands of representatives that work for Verizon as well. Even after working here for a year, every day I am asked something I have never been asked before. Things are always changing here at Verizon. New phones, plans and promotions are coming out and the ones we have are changing in some way.
