(The Theoretical and the Problem)
Introduction
In the plant kingdom flowers are what we think the world represents. Flowers are given to people as well as most likely they are roses, tulips and any other beautiful flowers we can think of. In the Philippines there is a flower that’s not so attractive but it makes up for the uses and the pleasing aroma it radiates. It is the sampaguita flower of the Philippines; it is also the national flower of the Philippines. Sampaguita is very popular given to tourists, new graduates, competition winners and as offering to the saints. It is used in aroma therapy for its pleasing scent. But other than scent, it is also used by the Chinese introducing jasmine tea. Other than garlands, the sampaguita flower was also known for its medicinal properties. In the book MEDICINAL PLANTS OF THE PHILIPPINES by Eduardo Quisimbing, it is reported that sampaguita flower in the Philippines is being applied as lactifuge to the breast of women. The roots present several uses. They may be used to treat venereal disease when given fresh, while a tincture made from it is reported to be used as a sedative, anesthetic and vulnerary. Leaves are also given internally in decoction for fevers. When boiled in oil, they exude a balsam which is used by the natives to alleviate eye complaints.
