Ip Antibacterial Screening of Banana Shoot Extract
to determine the potential and effect of banana shoot extract as antibacterial soap.

----------------------- ABSTRACT This study aimed the potential of banana shoot extract for the production of an antibacterial soap. The innovation in this study is the utilization of bio-product to use as an antibacterial soap at a very minimal cost. The researchers also aimed that the antibacterial soap could also be a moisturizer. They were still working on the matter and for now, they would justify first the capability of the banana shoot extract as antibacterial soap. The materials used were banana shoot extract, oil and glycerin soap. There were three treatments prepared where the amount of oil (130g), and sodium hydroxide (25g) and the amount of banana shoot extract was varied. Analysis of Covariance was used in the analysis of the results to determine the significant difference between the experimental antibacterial soap and sold antibacterial soap. Results showed that there was no significant difference between the experimental antibacterial soap and commercially sold antibacterial soap in terms of its antibacterial activity. But in terms of odor T1 was the best treatment; in terms of texture T1 was the best; in terms of color T1 and T2 were the best. The results showed that 80 percent of the bacteria Staphyloccocus Aureus were killed. The T3 was best among all the treatment. Thus, the researchers concluded that the ability of banana shoot extract as an antibacterial soap was effective. The banana shoot extract was proved to be an alternative, affordable and yet environment-friendly antibacterial soap.

According to the results, there was no significant difference between the filtered 100% water composition, and the filtered 90% water 10% soap composition. However, based on fFigure 2, the Average of Absorbance graph, showed that growth of the algae for the 100% water composition was observed to be slightly higher than the 90% water 10% soap composition. Meaning the soap may have slightly affected the growth of the algae, in some way. One possible, reason for a slightly higher growth for the filtered 100% water could be due to the filtered 90% water 10% soap, having antibacterial chemicals in the soap . With a study being done on how certain antibacteria, like tylosin, trimethoprim, and lincomycin, affected the growth of 4 different algae…

    * As a well-known fact, waste products are very harmful to the environment. Having no concern regarding the earth's subsequent and harmful transformation may lead to a traumatic scene which is merely brought by our own ignorance. The initial step to avoid this is to recycle and by all means, creating a valuable stuff out of garbage. We came up with the idea of turning banana peels into liquid detergent. Banana peels can't be recycled because they rot eventually. The extraction of mixed fatty acids from the banana peels would be the most essential part of making the detergent.
