Egoism In Ayn Rand's Anthem

Anthem What is egoism? Something that Prometheus seems so interested in. Egoism is a doctrine that individual self worth is the motive behind all conscious action. In this day in age being an egoist is wrong, but in Prometheus society being an egoist wasn’t even heard of. Why is it that Prometheus writes down “ego” at the very end of the book on page 105 of Anthem. To Prometheus the word ego is sacred. To Prometheus being an individualist should be something everyone should want and strive for. In fact Prometheus is wanting to go and get his friends back at the cursed City. He wants International 4-8818, and all those like International, Fraternity 2-5503, the street sweeper who cries without reason, and Solidarity 9-6347 who calls for
help in his dreams (Rand 101). Prometheus wanted to let all of his Brothers see what being an egoist could do for them. Prometheus at the very beginning he has been different than all of his brothers. At a young age during his school life he wanted to go to the House of Scholars. He wanted to go and that is a sin according to his society. Prometheus throughout the whole book knows that what he is doing is wrong, but it makes him happy, so he does it anyways.
