“Few dispute that the growing elderly population will have a dramatic impact of social services, housing, and health care. The controversy centers on whether this impact-and the way that society responds to it-will be positive or negative.” As time passes, our youth and knowledge starts to unravel. As we get older, we lose certain senses such as, sight and hearing. These senses are specifically important and much needed when driving. The elderly are at much higher risk for being involved in a car accident. If an individual over 60 is tested in these areas every three years, a determination can be made at that time whether or not safe driving is an issue. The reason for most fatal car accidents among seniors are loss of hearing and sight. Loss of these senses can happen gradually or for some, rapidly. Losing the ability to hear can cause an individual to miss important sounds such as sirens, horns, or traffic in general. Impaired vision poses obvious difficulties and restrictions to forget direction or basic driving techniques and skills. The problem is that there is reward law for every three years to make it feasible. If each state passed a law that persons 60 and over should take a driver’s test every three years, driving accidents will decrease.
