the bullying.
Ever since, I never hesitated to speak up and defend my opinion. Another example of when I was a leader was often I would go to an after-school program and watch over the kids. I would have to have the kids learn the work but entertain them at the same time. What made me a leader in these situations was that I wanted these kids to do better and learn the following information but all they wanted was to play and run around. I had to motivate and influence these kids to do what I said not because it was going to better me but for they can be better students. With patience and motivation I made sure every day that the kid wanted to learn instead of being forced. Leaders don’t only think about themselves when they have a vision but think of everyone. This is what I consider a leader; one who realizes there is an issue and is brave enough to stand up for their belief. Everyone has different opinion on what truly is a leader. This is what I believe a good leader is. There are many qualities a leader must acquire. However, good leadership goes
beyond managing and telling people what to do. Good leaders influence and inspire people to believe in their goals and dream. They come up with ideas on how to achieve this goal and then successfully achieve it. All leaders have a motivating vision for the future and then motivate other to be part in achieving this vision. Being a leader, you have to overcome many issues and find ethical solutions that others wouldn't think of. This is how my sister became my influence. My sister, Cindy, was awarded the presidential award for community service. Cindy thought me to give back to the community and guide people to a better life. My sister did community work in an elementary school, food drive, Red Cross blood donation, and many other positive programs. She managed these activities and helped others join too. Cindy would always say to me, “sometimes you have to be the first person to take action for action to happen.” She showed me that to create a change, you had to take action even if you’re the first to do it. Cindy graduated last year and dealt with many setbacks regarding college. My oldest sister was already attending university which was a financial burden. Now having another one going to university would be financially impossible. My sister, Cindy, didn't let that stop her. So instead of taking out a loan or having my dad pay for her tuition she did scholarships. Working day and night with essays and other loads of responsibility my sister paid for her college. Not only did she show me that nothing is impossible but she proved that when you do good, good will be done to you. This has inspired me to help the community and give back to a community that has given so much to me. There are many reasons why I would like to take part in the Capitol Region Interdistrict Leadership Academy (CRILA).I would like to take part because ever since I was young, I had been passionate about being a leader and helping people in need. I gave people the voice that they were too scared to speak and pushed people to achieve better. I also helped people and my community by reaching out my hand to those who needed it and trying to improve my community. Being a leader and helping was always something I valued and would love to be part of a program that feels the same way. CRILA will strengthen me as a person by helping me form into a better leader. The program will let me meet other leaders, which will teach me what some of the qualities that good leaders have are. I will also like to be part of CRILA so I can bring my leadership skills and ideas to help better the program. CRILA will give me the opportunity to participate in community service more often as well. I truly feel like CRILA will guide and teach me to become a better person in all aspects.
