I would like to invite anyone of you to kick-start the discussion by giving us your point of view. B: Allow me to begin. Through history, technology innovations have helped humankind improve their standards of living, beginning with the simple invention of bore tools of prehistoric times, continuing on to beyond electronic media such as mobile phone, tabs and computer. In my opinion, the social relationship is the most affected by electronic media. This is because I think students can have their social life by interacting with people all over the world. 2. What effects do you think the various types of media (TV, Internet, newspapers, Facebook, etc.…) have on your own life and your family? Do you think the overall effect is negative or positive? How can parents reduce the negative effects? I think social media effects everyone in a bad way. I feel that pages like Twitter and Facebook make people feel like they aren’t good enough cause of what other people might say or post. People can be getting bullied and no one knows. Social media gives people low self-esteem. I think the overall effect is negative. Parents can reduce the negative effect by restricting the child from using social media pages until they are older.…

Gambino builds a hypothesis about the adverse impacts of technologies by showing Robert Putnam’s concern in his book and the study from University of Arizona and Duke University. Those researches show that American people’s communication with others declines about 30 to 50 percentage. However, Gambino uses Keith Hampton’s average technology using frequency research and his internet communication research in public places show that the development of technology not only didn’t reduce people’s relationship but also increase people’s frequency of interaction with others. He also shows the report of Wilson’s family daily life reflects that technologies don’t drop family’s communication, which against the research from University of Arizona and Duke University.…

Media plays a notable role in the global society. Its presence is abundant- whether from television, radio, internet or book, the media’s existence is one of pertinence. Although internet is a fairly recent phenomenon, other forms of media have co-existed for decades. They have provided both entertainment and information to a troubled nation, allowing for comfort and unease to arise. The myriad of people reached through mass media illustrates its significance in impacting beliefs and ideologies. While the media has a responsibility to report unbiased facts, both sides of a story are not always published. Each platform has its own perspective, or bias, that exposes viewers to a variety of point of views, allowing for interconnection. The most…

Media is incorporated in our everyday lives and almost in everything you do. Through my Media Usage Journal I've learned that I spent countless hours using media. From communication purposes to school and even entertainment purposes I use media. However actually keeping a log showed me that I spent more than half of my day using media. Even through writing this paper I'm using the media. even though I'm offline. I also learned that most of my media use is done through my I-phone, not sure if it's good or bad thing but for the most part my I-phone keeps me on top of things and helps me become a more productive individual. Due to my busy schedule during the weekdays with school, commuting and home life, I do not have as much free time to sit and watch television or read the newspaper but I think it is really important to keep up with the mediums and be informed of what is going on in the world. The media can be very beneficial and have a really good impact in our lives if used for such purposes. However it is when we live our lives within our media, rather than simply. Everyday we our introduced to a new media device and while they can be very beneficial the problem begins when we become dependent on them and we fail to realize that there is life outside of that device, happened to me. For that reason I try to limit my media usage as much possible as I can because as helpful as it can be, it can also get in the way of actually being productive. Reflecting on this log I do think I spend a lot of time using media however I guess now a days media is to us what water is to fish.…
