Elie Wiesel's The Help
How The Help Impacted Me in Different Ways The Help is a very inspiring story about racism, bravery, and change. The main character skeeter, struggles to become a writer for Elaine Stein publishing company, she must create an “original” idea to write about for her first article in the paper. Aibileen also narrates the story and she’s describing what she feels throughout the story. The Help is important for our society to read because it’s reminding us that racism was a problem that happened and it’s important to learn about it. This book is important because it has lessons that you can learn from their mistakes. “That’s what I like about Aibileen, she can take the most complicated problems in life and wrap them up so small and simple, they’ll fit right in your pocket.” …show more content…
Aibileen worked for Elizabeth Leefolt and her daughter Mae Mobley Leefolt, the two main lessons that she tried to teach Mae Mobley was that she was important “You is kind, you is smart, you is important.” (521) the other lesson was to teach her that all people are the same but some had a different skin color, “I want to yell so loud that baby girl can hear me that dirty ain't a color, disease ain't the dirty side a town. I want to stop that moment from coming when they start to think that colored folks aren't as good as whites.” (75) the text evidence shows that Aibileen wants to raise a good child to not believe in racism. This book impacted me because I love how no matter how damaging their lives are they find the positivity. “You have to ask yourself am I gone believe what them fools say about me today?” (73) “all i’m saying is kindness don’t have no boundaries.” (72) no matter how bad their lives are they find goodness in their hearts to be kind and forget about any damaging words that were said to

From its use of symbolism to the life lesson. Jeannette Walls told her story in a unique way and it made me feel different emotion. After reading about what Jeannette and her siblings had to go through, made me think about my life. Personally, it made me grateful for having a family that provides me a shelter and treats me well. Of course, we all have ups and downs, but it just so hard to believe what she went through. And how she manages to stay strong and positive, when others can easily give up. I highly recommend this book to everyone, as if it can change your perspective on…

From the beginning of the book, it strikes me how brave and passionate Elie Wiesel is. To be a 13-year-old boy and studying the Jewish religion intensely at time when it was dangerous to be Jew shows great passion and dedication to me about his character. His bravery is also shown when on the train to Birkenau and in Auschwitz when in front of his father he continues to stay strong. Reading about how the Jewish people of Sighet had housed Nazis reminds me of the hospitality certain Native American tribes gave to the settlers and the settlers abused that generosity like the Nazis did.…

The reason why I chose “The Help” was primarily because it was the book chosen for review in the curriculum. This book has also been classified as a best seller by “The New York Times”. When I started reading the book, I became drawn to the characters portrayed in it. It told of a story based in 1962. At that time it was a privilege for white families to employ black housemaids to take care of their little children, and do household chores. It also gives an insight of how certain white people treated their black domestic helps, and their attitude in general, towards black people. The fear and trauma faced by black people at the hands of white people was also significantly highlighted. Each character has been described in detail in the book. The author also has given an insight to their lifestyles, emotions, feelings, likes and dislikes, with a touch of humor appropriately added.…

The article; To My White Friend connects to The Help in the way that people of different ethnicities shouldn’t be able to be together. In the article; To My White Friend, the author (whom is black) writes to a white friend who is concerned about the future of her daughter, who will be multi-racial, and how this will affect her in her lifetime. In The Help, Aibileen’s bi-racial daughter; Lulabelle, was given up by AIbileen because Lulabelle had white skin, so people could tell that Lulabelle’s father was white, and bi-racial couples were forbidden. Both of these articles deal with the discrimination of black people and the disapproval of them having a relationship with another person of a different ethnicity.…

The dialect in the The Help helped get the main idea of the novel across to its readers. It exemplified how the “the help” was less qualified as the white people when in reality they were often times brighter and more intelligent. One example of this is when Skeeter Phelan gets a job writing about cleaning and she is unable to write it. But because of her lack of participation in the racism she goes to Aibileen for help in writing the articles.…

Tom Robinson’s lawyer Atticus Finch fights for Tom’s freedom, but knows just like anyone else in the town that he will never win in court because of the racism that exists in Maycomb County. Aibileen Clark and Minny Jackson are two maids who are both from the same ethnicity but a different story. A black woman, who taught her that everyone was equal, raised a woman called Skeeter Phelan. After Skeeter sees what the other white women are doing to their maids. “I want to yell so loud that Baby Girl can hear me that dirty ain't a colour, disease ain't the Negro side of town. I want to stop that moment from coming – and it come in every white child's life – when they start to think that colored folks are not as good as whites” This passage points out that kids are born with racial prejudices, it's something they're taught from the older generation. Aibileen works hard to keep Mae Mobley's mind from being polluted. She has this idea to write a book about the maids and how they were being treated during the time that they were maids for the white people. At first Minny and Abileen don’t like the idea of this because if any one where to find out about the stories they gave to Skeeter they would no have a job and would maybe be killed. As both Abileen…

The Help written by Kathryn Stockett is a beautiful but shocking look into the racism towards coloured maids in Jackson Mississippi during the 1960's. An important character who helped to develop much of the plot-line is Hilly Hilbrook. Hilly becomes an important character through her talent for nasty gossip, her power over people and the insecurities she has about herself . She somehow manages to still seem cute and innocent and is described as, " One a those grown lady's that still dress like a little girl with big bows and matching hats and such. She ain't my favourite."…
