I had never heard of the Andrea Yates case until now. After doing some research I learned that Andrea Yates was a mother that killed all five of her children by drowning them because she believed that if she didn’t her kids were going to go to hell. Andrea had also claimed to be a bad mother and after killing her children she called her husband and the police telling them that “it’s time.” Once the police came Andrea had admitted to everything and told the police that she needs to be punished. She went to trial and then went to a mental hospital.…
Tammy Marquardt, an Ontarian woman, was found guilty of second degree murder in the death of her two-year-old, in 1993. Marquardt, who was 21 at the time, heard her son Kenneth Wynne, crying out for her. By the time she got to the crib, her son was tangled up in the sheets. When the emergency workers had arrived, he had stop breathing. Tammy was charged for smothering her son to death. Her charge was based on the evidence of Dr. Charles Smith, a pathologist, who testified to his opinion that the two year old had smothered or strangled to death. In 1995, she was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.…

As we have seen in Sabrina Butler’s case, less than 24 hours after she lost her child, in retrieving the answers that they wanted to hear, the local polices ambitiously demoralized and intimidated Butler. It is under these unsettling circumstances that she cave in and signed a false confession that was handed down by the prosecutors. Still, the only…

Every year, many people go on trial and have court cases for a crime of murder, but the Casey Anthony case was deemed “trial of the century”. According to “Casey Anthony,” June 15, 2008 was when two-year old Caylee Anthony was last seen alive. Casey Anthony, Caylee’s mom, claims that she dropped her daughter off at the babysitter’s home. When going to pick her up, neither the babysitter nor Caylee were anywhere to be found. A month later, on July 15, 2008, Cindy Anthony, Casey’s mother, called 911 and reported that Casey had told the family that she had not seen her daughter for 31 days. On July 16, mother of Caylee Anthony, Casey Anthony was arrested and charged for child neglect. On October 14, 2008 Casey Anthony was charged with first-degree…
A local woman calls law enforcement after hearing a knock at 4:26a.m. Opening it she found a newborn infant laying on her door step. According to the reports from authorities, the infant was lying on a white towel wearing nothing and only appeared to be only two hours old. The infant was rushed by ambulance to the hospital where she was treated for hypothermia. Unfortunately child abandonment cases like the one fore mentioned is not uncommon and pose a huge form of child neglect that can lead to death. Before 1999 cases like this was common in many states such as Texas. Statistics show that one out of 3 did not stand a chance at life. Thus the Safe Haven (“Baby Moses”) law was implemented to aid in minimizing acts of child abandonment and infant deaths; by giving parents a place to safely relinquish custody in the allotted timeframe provided by their state without criminal charges.…
Parental abuse syndrome was the defense used by brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez, who claimed that the reason they killed their mother and father was because they had both been brutally abused by their parents as children. Fetal alcohol syndrome is used as a defense when a person claims that the reason they committed the crime was because their mother drank alcohol while she was pregnant with the accused. Adopted child syndrome is a defense in which the person claims that they committed the crime while under a “sleeper effect” after finding out…
In 2006, Andrea Yates of Houston Texas was found not guilty by reason of insanity for the drowning of her five children. She suffered from severe postpartum psychosis and, in a delusional state; believed Satan was inside her and was trying to save them from hell (McNamara M., 2006a, p, 1). In 2001 Yates filled the tub with water and began with the drowning of her three youngest sons, then her only daughter, and last her first born son who was seven years old (Montaldo, 2010, p. 1). The evidence in this case seemed to show both that Yates knew what she was doing was criminal and she thought she was actually saving her children from punishment from beyond. In other words, some evidence…
