The Illinois Department of Children and Family Service Abuse and Neglect hotline received a report alleging Lisa S. left her children: Earl, Alice, Amy, and Eli, home alone in order to find her estranged husband. According to report, Lisa S. stabbed her husband with a 7-inch butcher knife upon locating him. Estranged husband, Eli Smith Sr. was transported to the hospital and was listed in critical condition. The knife punctured his lungs and diaphragm. Lisa S. was arrested and released shortly after her arrest. She was charged with aggravated domestic battery. stated that her mother utilized corporal punishment with her. Lisa S. indicated that at times the “whooping’s” she received were “hard.” Lisa S. reported that she was often left with “marks and bruises” on her legs, arms and back. Lisa S. indicated that her mother would use whatever object was available to her including extension cords and belts.
Lisa S. reported that when she was 17 years old, her uncle who sexually abused her when she was a child, hit her on her hands with a shovel. Her uncle was reportedly mad at Lisa because he did not like who she was dating. Lisa S. required medical attention and has significant scarring from the incident.
Education and Cognitive Functioning Lisa S. attended several high schools as a teenager. She eventually graduated from an Alternative High School. Lisa S. reports she has never received special education services. After high school, she received a data entry certificate from a college program at the University of Minnesota. Lisa S. attended South Suburban College in South Holland, Illinois. She graduated in 2010 with an Associates of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. She was in the process of obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree from Governor State University but discontinued her program due to her pending criminal and DCFS
