Emotional Intelligence: Business Analysis
Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the ability to manage emotional cues and understand the emotional states of others (Lamberton & Minor, 2014). EI also incorporates the capability to accurately recognize and thoughtfully control emotions in order to promote intellectual growth. Enhancing your knowledge in EI will help promote human relations in business settings and improve interaction with co-workers. The discussion below will include a knowledge of EI improving human relations in business situations and to help understand the interactions with others. In order to completely understand an interaction with another person and improve human relations in business settings, one must be able to grasp his or her own emotions before judging someone …show more content…
In order to help us understand the different areas of EI, Lamberton and Minor (2014) mentioned four of the following components; self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, and relationship management. Self-awareness is being aware of your own morals, opinions, and attitudes that will help understand the reaction of other people toward you. Social awareness is understanding the policies of other people around you. Controlling your emotions and showing optimism when challenge are defined within self-management. Lastly, relationship management involves the skills needed to work effectively in a team (Lamberton & Minor, 2014). An increase in knowledge and being aware of these components will help an individual gain comprehensive attentiveness of yourself and others. It helps improve human relations in business with successful communication, good decision making skills, self-control mechanisms, and effective leadership attributes even under emotional stress. For example, if someone is talking in a demeaning, obnoxious voice, you can relate these four components to the conversation.     Emotional intelligence (EI) can be described as “a person's ability to detect and manage emotional cues and information” (Baack, 2012), and it is comprised of five features: self-awareness, self-management, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills.     Encompassed is self and emotional-awareness. When having an awareness of our self and our emotions, we then would have the capability to identify our own strengths and weaknesses.
