Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies

One of favorite treats growing up and even today is homemade, chocolate chip cookies. Ever since my grandmother made them when I was younger, I could never resist the smell of the kitchen as the cookies were baking in the oven. As long as I had a tall glass of cold milk or even a cup of coffee and I’m ready for chocolate chip cookies anytime. Oftentimes when I was younger, my grandmother and I would make the cookies together, she would give me tips and I enjoyed learning from her.

For chocolate chip cookies, we used the popular Toll House cookie recipe found on the back of the bag of chocolate chips. We have found through the years that this recipe is our favorite. Therefore, the most important ingredient is the Toll House chocolate chips. This particular recipe is based on the twelve ounce package that we often used. Depending on how large of a batch we wanted to bake, we would use larger or multiple bags of chips, following the directions on the back, we may double or triple the amount of ingredients. But for this particular recipe I will use the twelve ounce bag recipe is our guideline.

We would start by preheating the oven to 375 degrees as per the instructions on the bag. Once we gathered all of the ingredients we would lay them out on the table. We also would make sure to have all the proper cooking utensils such as bowls for mixing, a mixer, a spatula, and small ice cream scooper for scooping the dough onto the baking sheet. We would use four baking sheets, two for prepping while the other two sheets are in the oven cooking. Once everything was gathered and the preparations are set, we began combining the ingredients to make our wonderful cookies.

When I first bought my old Chevy Silverado from the used car lot, I instantly fell in love with the thing. A brief test drive gave me plenty of reason to overlook the few cosmetic flaws and minor mechanical imperfections. I liked driving it so much that it didn’t matter to me that the odometer was stuck, the air conditioner wasn’t cold, or that it didn’t come with a jack or lug wrench. I could fix what needed fixing, and I could find a jack at any pawn shop….which is exactly what I did….the cheapest they had. I drove around for a couple of weeks, feeling safe and secure, before the first blowout. That’s when I realized that the jack I had purchased was inadequate. It was this realization and the frustration of really needing to get somewhere that sparked the inspiration for my development of what I call the “two-jack” method of changing a tire. This method isn’t exactly safe, or wise, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone ever doing it, but just in case the need ever arises, it can be done.…

While preheating your oven, prepare the dough! Combine the 2 ¼ cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt in to your small mixing bowl. You won’t be using these right away, just set that aside while you prepare the rest of your dough. Now grab a large mixing bowl, add 2 sticks of butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and beat the four ingredients with your hand-mixer. Once the ingredients are well mixed together, crack the eggs into the mixture, one at a time. Beat the mixture until it is blended enough. Take the small bowl of dry ingredients, and slowly add small amounts into the already blended bowl. What you will be doing is adding a little, then using the hand-mixer to blend, little by little, until the dry mix is gone. Now you have the cookie dough. But wait! You have one last step! You can’t forget the chocolate chips! I tend to add the whole bag when making this dough, but feel free to add as many as you may please! Once you have added…

A trip to the bowling alley is anything but boring. There are pool tables, air hockey tables and arcade games you can play if bowling just isn’t your fancy. Also, you can’t go to the bowling alley without getting some good-ol’ snack bar food! There’s nachos, cheese fries and corn dogs; with so many choices who could complain? I finally learned to stop asking that question after my parents purchased a bowling alley and put me to work. Bowling machines are just that- machines. One can’t expect a machine to work one hundred percent of the time, flawlessly. Occasionally a bowling machine will mess up, it’s inevitable. For instance the scoring system could go down leaving most people lost. Fortunately for you this essay will help keep you in the light if the scoring system at your local bowling alley is ever in the dark.…
