The story has key themes in the book that makes it a better story. One example, is how the I.F. put monitors on children and then if qualified sent to Battle School to train. This shows the theme of how the government in the story was too controlling and had a lot of power. Ender’s life was controlled by Colonel Graff at the Battle school. He was not protected while there and he was isolated from everyone else. Ender was not given much of a choice to become this leader. Another example is when Dink told Ender that the real enemies are the teachers. Ender was put under a lot of pressure during the school battles because the teachers were forcing him to play one to two games everyday which was abnormal. Also the teachers were …show more content…
always changing the rules to which Ender noticed was unfair. He also realized the way they had forced him into isolation. This is important because it shows Ender’s problem with seeing who the real enemy is; the teachers or the Buggers. A few of these themes were present in the movie as similarities.
There were some corresponding elements between the movie and the book. The way Ender was treated at battle school were similar. This worked well because it shows how Ender was secluded from the other students, and how the teachers set him apart right from the start of the launch. Ender was not treated like everyone else at the school. Another correlation between the two was most of the same characters. These characters were important to the story because they helped develop Ender as a character at Battle School and he also learned many things from them. Although there were some resemblances, there are more differences between the two.
The movie and the book had many more variations compared to the similarities. Most of the battles that took place in the book were not present in the movie. Some of the battles were important to the story because it showed Ender’s intelligence and perseverance even though the teachers were making the team he commanded play everyday. Furthermore in the movie, it never showed him training with other kids and showing them his strategies. One of Ender’s main goal during the games was that he would stay away from formations and be different. The movie showed battles with him using formations. Another difference is that the movie did not develop the characters of Valentine and Peter as they did in the book. These characters were important to the story in developing Ender because in the book he compares himself to both of them. Also because they did not show Valentine and Peter in the movie as much, they left out their pseudonyms Demosthenes and Locke, which shows how intelligent kids were able to gain power.
Overall, the storyline of the book was more interesting than the movie.
The book was a better representation because it had more story and depth for developing characters which is key for readers to enjoy a story. Also readers can tell what characters are thinking in a book, and it is easier to understand them, while in the movie there is just dialogue. In the movie, it did not show all of the hardships Ender faced in becoming a commander. For Ender’s final simulation at command, without knowing, he destroyed a whole planet of Buggers who were just hopelessly defending their planet. The book made it clear of one theme, always know who the real enemy is before attacking because it could just end up being a futile
war.
