As a college student, I see myself facing this issue almost all the time. Time management. It is extremely difficult knowing how to productively pass the time and get things done. When all these distractions come in the way of study time or homework, it is that much harder for someone to put all of their focus on what it is they should be doing. Because of poor time management, college students often see themselves performing poorly in the classroom. Knowing how to manage time efficiently, means knowing how to prioritize and how to have self-control.
Along with school, comes the part-time job, the social activities, and the personal relationships that college students must make time for. All of which can become distractions when trying to focus on just one task. What is most difficult for me as a college student, is balancing time between my family and homework. What matters to me the most is my family and because of that, I find myself setting homework aside so that I can spend as much time with them as possible. Later on, I am crammed with all this homework with only a couple of hours to get it all done. I get overwhelmed, frustrated, and I begin to stress thinking that I am not going to have enough time to get everything done.
Just like my situation, many college students put homework and study-time aside for whatever reason and end up feeling pressured which eventually leads to stress. With stress comes lack of sleep, headaches, and can cause many other physical effects. Because we are so caught up on what we are doing at the time, we don’t take our health into consideration. Unless they are already ill, college students typically have no reason to care for their health since they are already too busy with other things.

    1. Make to do lists. This is something that I already do to a degree in my personal life, but not as often as I should. I plan on implementing this to help me achieve my educational goals. Lists help organize things by importance and act as a reminder to finish tasks I might leave behind. Personally when I complete tasks on my lists I feel a sense of accomplishment and have more desire to tackle some of the harder tasks on my list. I will begin to implement this time management skill with this class, and carry it over to block 2 through Gateway Community College.…

The four vital areas that I need to improve in order to become more efficient in managing my time as a college student would include prioritizing, resolving issues, time management and procrastination. As a single working mother I find it hard to prioritize what's really important which always brings a sense of panic. Personally as a working parent I always feel overwhelmed from the many obligations that go along with raising young children. Therefore it's very easy to find myself with multiple projects with fast approaching deadlines. Instead of always over scheduling myself I must schedule unscheduled time to allow personal time to reenergize my mind and body. I also have to choose what's really important…

While reading The Strategic Student by David Cass, I learned a lot of information on how to successfully transition from high school to college academics. The most important skills that I learned were about time management. Without being able to manage your time, you would not succeed it all of your classes. You would most likely spend too much time studying for one class and not another or spend too much time on other outside activities. As David Cass wrote “Time management is all about the right quantity of quality study hours and no more.”.…

In order to keep balance between juggling college, work, and family obligations I have set a schedule that I stick with weekly. I have the same weekly schedule for work, then I have an allotted time set aside each day for my school work and studies, and then there is the family time. The hardest thing for college students is waking up in time for class so you won't sleep in. For example if you have a class at 8 you can't stay up to one u have to go to bed earlier and set your alarm to wake up in time. Also when you first wake up don't go on your phone or you will be late for sure. Getting a lot of homework is stressful to do all of it especially if its due the next day. For example if you get like 100 pages of work and its due tomorrow it is not healthy for an adult to do that much and its stressful to finish it in that time.…

I am going to have to set expectations for myself that are reasonable and manageable for having two children, a full time job, a dog and a husband. “Decide on a reasonable timeline for graduation and budget carefully to balance family with grad school.” (Garner, 2013). I do not want to take time away from what little family time we have. I am going to have to work on doing homework during football practice or ballet while I’m sitting there waiting for it to end. Now if it 's a game or recital my children will obviously have my fulltime attention. I am going to have to figure out ways to get assignments done before my husband gets home or wait to do them when he is on the night shift and the children are already in bed. Time with family is precious and you cannot get it back so finding little breaks in the day/night to get homework completed is a must. Children and husbands take naps, go to work/school, have different work schedules, etc. I just have to make that time, search for it and utilize it the best and most efficient way that I…

School can consume our daily life. Do one thing at a time, divide your time between daily schoolwork and other responsibilities outside of school. Doing too much at once can be daunting. Can’t say “no”. This arises from a wish to please everyone and suggests a failure to define what’s really important. Simplify your goals. Decide what you need to do and can do, and say” no” to whatever interferes. (Yager, 2003) There are a multitude of factors that contribute to time management. We can waste time by watching TV, texting, checking e-mails, surfing the web, playing games or hanging out with friends. It is not a constructive way to use time. These factors can also be attributed to procrastination. Time management and procrastination go hand in…
