Summary Of The Strategic Student By David Cass
While reading The Strategic Student by David Cass, I learned a lot of information on how to successfully transition from high school to college academics. The most important skills that I learned were about time management. Without being able to manage your time, you would not succeed it all of your classes. You would most likely spend too much time studying for one class and not another or spend too much time on other outside activities. As David Cass wrote “Time management is all about the right quantity of quality study hours and no more.”. I was surprised when I read that the less a student needs their college advisor, the better off they are. I always thought that it was the other way around. I believed that if I didn’t contact my advisor that I would be considered a bad student, because I was not reaching out even if I did not need help. Learning how to maximize my relationship with my college advisor by already having my questions planned, communicate my problems early on, and clarify my reason for meeting before I get there will help both me and my advisor ensure that we will get the most out of our time. This skill will be really helpful to me, because I’m a visual learner and being able to have a list in front of me and see what I need to do or have already done will help me stay organized. I also learned important skills on how to management my grade point average. I knew that not all classes have the same credit hours, but what I didn’t know was that the higher the credit hours the more important the class is to your GPA. However, that does not mean that I should focus all of my studying time in one class, it means that I need to “train” more in my difficult classes. Learning skills on how to manage my GPA will benefit me, because my GPA will help shape out my future and insure that I will get a good
