In truth with the immigrants coming they will open more job opportunities for everyone. The immigrants could open more businesses, allow for expansion in certain businesses to get more jobs. Another myth the anti immigrant groups will try to sell people is immigrants drain America’s social services. The Urban Institute recently took data which showed immigrants pay more of their taxes than they take out of any of the social services. This is due to many reasons like fear of getting any infractions for deportation or because if they do not pay taxes they could have their paychecks withheld.…
According to “Immigrants Have Enriched American Culture and Enhanced Our Influence in the World” by Daniel Griswold, immigrants aren’t weakening America, they are a fundamental factor that hold this nation together. Without them the nation would be negatively impacted as it would lose businesses, which would cause millions of people to go on unemployment; money, from taxes that are no longer being paid; labor force, since immigrants were helping to revitalize the average population; tourists, as they mostly came from foreign countries. Griswold also states that instead of worrying about immigration the focus should be on border security. Rather than restricting peaceful people, who only want to better their lives, the nation should restrict…
In his article What Does Immigration Actually Cost Us by Thomas B. Edsall he shows us the ups and downs to immigrants in our country. Edsall does a good job of explaining both sides the democratic and republican views of this argument. He shows us some of the benefits for business. Edsall states the main benefit of immigrants in our country the benefit is for businesses. Edsall explains how the fact that immigrants will work for less money making the business more profitable for the owners and investors. There is a downside to this as Edsall says they are taking positions that Americans can be doing basically they are making it more of a challenge to get jobs. More downsides highlighted by Edsall shows the estimated costs of supporting the…
Not only that, the influx of new workers that are willing to work for lower wages would allow businesses more flexibility. This can then lead to better quality products, cheaper prices for consumers, and finally a higher profitability for the companies. The arrival of the immigrants also leads to more consumers, which helps the businesses. The businesses can then expand, offering more jobs, and with more people with jobs, the rate of consumption continues to rise. The aid to America’s economy, especially now, would be ideal.…
A major problem the United States faces today is illegal immigration. The United States is a country founded upon immigrants who have come here legally and made productive lives. Illegal immigration is a drain on the economy and poses an excessive risk to the citizens of this country. In a post 9/11 world the U.S. faces many challenges and foreign enemies like never seen before in the past. Border security is an issue that has not been taken seriously, yet is the one critical issue that is vital to our nation’s national security and preservation. It is estimated that eleven to twelve million undocumented immigrants live and work in the United States, roughly one in every twenty workers, according to a study by the Pew Hispanic Center (Pew Hispanic Website). Most illegal immigrants that enter the country do so from the U.S.-Mexico border. In 2007, some 880,000 people were arrested illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico broder. According to the American Federation for Immigration Reform (FAIR), eighteen percent of illegal immigrants fall below the poverty line (Fairius.org). This is compared to eleven percent of the poverty stricken individuals who are native born. The implications from this is simple for the United States: illegals are twice as likely than native born citizens to apply and receive some sort of federal assistance that is taxpayer funded. Annualy state governments are spending anywhere between eleven billion to twenty two billion dollars to provide aid to illegal immigrants. Another major problem faced by our current policy of allowing illegal immigrants into our country is approximately two billion a year of tax payer dollars are spent on WIC, food stamps, school lunches, etc. Our country spends two and a half billion dollars a year on Medicaid for illegal immigrants and roughly seventeen billion a year is spent…
Historically, immigration has been a good way to get different, motivated, eager people to be part of the United States. The people who are willing to go to the effort of immigrating and are brave enough to leave their home countries and the lives they know are likely to be more ambitious than the regular run of people.…
For as long as America can remember, throughout the years, hundreds of thousands illegal and legal immigrants from all over the world come to the United States. Of the thousands of immigrants that come into America, they each have many different reasons and stories. Immigrants come to the United States, some to better their life and to go after opportunity’s that they could not do in their home country. Others are refugees and have no other choice but to flee their home country due to the wars and persecution. Over all immigration has held a major role in shaping our country, it promotes cultural movement of people and positively keeps the economy running in ways like increased employment and student graduating rates.…
Immigration has caused many concerns for Americans, as this is an ongoing issue that is very controversial. Many politicians argue that an open door policy creates a higher rate for crime and threat upon the U.S citizens. For example, “The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States suggest that loose immigration policy can allow enemies of the country in too easily” (Unit 8 Lecture 1: Immigration). Also, many claim that allowing immigrants into the United States harms the economy, especially with unemployment. Certainly this can be a downfall to an open door policy; as immigrants are assuming jobs that Americans could fill. I also thought this was a big disadvantage because business will be more willing to hire the immigrants…
Some people may believe that immigration benefits the country. People may think that as there would be more workforces, this is because as long as the job is being completed it doesn’t matter who does it. People who are starting up small businesses would believe immigration benefits our country. This would be thought as the immigration would be working on zero contract, meaning they would be working long hours and be paid a low wage, by doing this the business would expand faster. Some people may…
English 101 has been an amazing class and I feel like I have grown more than I expected. I was apprehensive about taking an English class because I have been away from school for almost seventeen years. I have not written an essay since 1996 and I knew many things have changed. I was especially concerned with citations. However, I found myself being able to work though citations with little effort.…
there are a multitude of issues surrounding unauthorized immigrants who stay in the United States. Often times, the media likes to glorify the negative aspects of an issue to promote their own agenda and mindset. In actuality, these people aren’t hurting our economy in any way. These individuals actually account for a significant boost in the economy across the board in many ways. Unauthorized Immigrants have actually been shown to boost the wages for middle class families, do not benefit from federal welfare programs but still pay taxes, help create diversity and often are the source of the labor workforce. Illegal immigration is only negative because it has the word “illegal” attached to it. If we make it easier for these people to gain…
It’s true illegal immigration cost money for patrolling the border and deportation, but patrolling is also for a requirement for national security. Think about it, illegal immigration creates jobs for Americans like the border patrol. Also immigrants do pay taxes like; sales taxes, and paycheck taxes. Immigrants pay about the same as American citizens, although they do not receive the same incentives as Americans. According to the Washington post “about 46.4% of U.S households don’t pay federal income tax” (Brad Plummer). A factual argument against immigration is to the crime rate in the U.S, due to illegal immigrants. The Washington examiner states that 74.1 of drug tracking were caused by illegal immigrants. If immigrants were held under the constitution like an average citizen then they will be more responsible of their actions and the ones who consistently break the law will have their residency…
Immigrants play a critical role in our nation, boost our economy, and know that citizenship is morally right decision. People of all ages have been continuously fleeing their countries from war, persecution, and poverty. Immigrants have been willing, immigrants have been hardworking, and immigrants deserve the right to become a U.S…
people to flow freely through our borders. Illegal immigration is an economic, social and national security issue that needs addressing. With a controlled legal immigration system, the United States can protect itself and also welcome the best immigrants that the world has to offer. Not doing so subjects us to the lowest common denominator of immigrants, which cannot possibly be in the best interests of the country.…
There are two sides of every story when it comes to immigration, some come here to cause trouble but others just want a better opportunity in life. Illegal immigrants cause the United States to go into even more debt than we are in. They have raised crime rates at an increasing rate. Even though it’s illegal to come here some still choose to do so and on the way, people have died at the border. Overall they just want a better life. We don’t know much about their past lives but we do know that they want to come to the states for a better opportunity for them and their family. Immigrants affect the United States in many different ways.…
