Environment......Today and Tomorrow
Environment……..today and tomorrow

We humans consider ourselves the most intelligent species on this planet…… but are we? Look around, the animals who are supposedly “less intelligent” than us are not doing any damage to our environment. But we are. Why are the humans destroying their only home, the planet they live on, the only rock body in the universe known to harbor life? You can see pollution everywhere. Land, air, water, even noise pollution. Nature is calling out to us. We are ignoring the warnings. Recent natural disasters in Japan, Haiti, etc. etc. Have ever stopped to think what these warnings mean? People, the human race is coming to extinction. And the only way you can save it is to join hands and work together.lets save mother earth and bring balance to nature. I don't believe anyone would demolish his/her own house with him/her and family in it....then what on Earth are we doing. Save Nature, Save the World. Something akin to panic is communicated onto my sterile computer screen, then my furrowed brow and soon my troubled mind when I sit alone, in the dark of my room and explore ideas and possibilities. Turning the light on and the computer off doesn't dissolve my disturbed mood; nothing does until the outside can creep in and warm me. It's usually a human voice; something more real than the essays and articles I read on global warming and remote ice caps that melt slowly every year. The fear settles until someone with a weaker sense of reality can convince me that "something is being done" by environmental scientists and none of it will affect me when I am dust.…

In the year 1800 the human population on earth reached 1 billion. In 200 years, the population soared to 6 billion (Berg & Hager, Chapter 1, 2009). With industrialization and technologies developed in those 200 years, humans have been depleting the earth’s natural resources at an alarming rate. Environmental science is the branch of science concerned with the physical, chemical, and biological conditions of the environment and their effect on organisms ("Dictionary.com", 2013). Knowing and understanding the environment and what can be done to sustain it will help humans survive on this planet without destroying it more.…

The article that Mrs. Capps has provided me with is, full of tested hypothesis proving the theory of how our society is prepositioning our personas. As people we see ourselves naturally as kind, friendly and honest. However, were more like a chameleon because we change based on our surroundings. You may not notice but others do and it shows a whole lot about who you truly are. These tests were made by scientist and the police forces to find how people truly act in different surroundings. The first Test, the series of blue lights, quickly showed significant results of the crime rates. They dramatically decreased and it was proven that the blue lights were, mysteriously calming and gives a sense of justice or hope to the people. Not only did the crime rates reduce but the number of suicide attempts decreased as well. Another theory is the mirror theory which is said to be even more powerful, because they compel us to peer, metaphorically, into our own souls. In West Midlands, England, they placed a pair of eyes around town on posters. It showed that the people are more honors and have more manners in places they feel they are being watched. I know it’s comforting to believe that there’s a unique individual version of each of us but there isn’t. We are simply, the Good or the bad. The environmental shapes and reshapes us as fast as we can walk from one part of the city to another.…

“Today human actions have become major forces in the operation of the earth system. They increasingly challenge the system boundaries of the planet, which will result in fundamental, unprecedented and unpredictable changes in the earth system (UNEP, 2012).” This is the most important perspective we have to consider as we enter and currently live in the era provided by the 21st century. Everything happening in this world is dependent or, if not, manipulated, by human beings. We have become the most superior entity on this planet to the point that we can tinker and choose our planet’s destiny.…

The situation with the Vikings on Greenland gives a good example of this. Trading walrus ivory with Europeans was an important part of the Economy. The iron was important for the Vikings in fighting against the Inuit people. The Europeans essentially started to trade for elephant ivory instead. There were good growing conditions in some western parts of Greenland in the summers and they lived off animal products, i.e. pastoralists. During the period the Vikings were there they became Christians and landowners and the church controlled most of the land. The Vikings disappeared in the 14-1500s. There was a middle ice age in northern Europe so that the summers was shorter and it was harder to keep the animals. They didn’t want to adapt to become hunter gatherers for several reasons. They where superior people and wouldn’t give up on their beliefs. If they did as the Inuit people, the elite (church) would loose its power. Religion made interaction with the Inuit people illegal and the Vikings where natural conservative.…
