Epilogue To Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
Once upon a time in a cramped cottage an elderly man sat alone by a dim candle regretting that he didn't fulfil his dream. Remembering when he was young. Ever since he was young he had always dreamt of exploring the world and sailing the seas. He had big plans. The places he would visit, the friends he would make, but he had given up on those dreams because he wasn't special, he was just an ordinary farm boy.
The elderly man sighed, got out of his chair and went out to feed his horse. As the sun fell and the moon rose one single star shot across the sky. He saw this star and made a wish remembering the old legend that if you wish on a shooting star your wish will come true.
“I wish I could see the world” the man whispered. For a moment everything

But first I need to rest.” replied the unicorn. As the night went on they flew over the seas. On their way the man rested comfortably as if he had done it before. They landed just as the sun began to rise over the mountains. “Master, we have arrived” the mystical creature explained. The man began to explore the thick forest and freshwater stream that the he had dreamt of visiting for quite a long time.
“It's just how I pictured it, the trees forming a roof above our heads and the cool glimmery stream” the man said as he ran his hand through the water. His dreams were beginning to come true. They enjoyed the sun shining in there. As the sun fell and the moon rose the man and the unicorn rested.
The next day they flew towards a small island in the middle of the ocean with tropical trees and a saltwater waterfall leading out to the sandy crystal beaches “Madter we have arrived” the unicorn informed the man.
“It’s just as I imagined it to be. The crystal sand, the clear seas, the birds singing in the trees.” the man stated. the unicorn lounged on the beach staring up into the sky, spotting pictures in the clouds. He and the man spent the day exploring the

“Excuse me how can you walk on clouds? You are human are you not?” the bird asked. The man explained that he didn't know how he could walk on clouds, but somehow he was able to. The unicorn and Orlando continued to explore the island for the rest of the day. As the sun fell and the moon rose the man and the unicorn enjoyed there time in the clouds knowing that in the morning they would have to depart home. The sun rose above the clouds the unicorn and Orlando departed for home. When they reached home the man expected that the unicorn would turn back into his horse.
“I always thought that it was too late for me to fulfill my dreams. I guess I was wrong. ”
Gracefully the landed on the ground at the man’s house. The man wore a worried look on his face.
“Orlando? Are you okay?” he asked when he saw his worried face. The man explained how he worried that the unicorn would turn back into his horse. The unicorn was the only friend he had.

Additionally, South goes on to discuss the unicorn’s role in the Garden of Eden, describing how the unicorn and its mate refused to enter the ark. “Some accounts say that the unicorn drowned in the Flood, but others say that he survived by swimming until the waters went down” (South 1987:18). South’s tale is unique because it acts as a reasonable explanation for many people as to why unicorns are not present in the world anymore: they were wiped out by the flood. The religious symbolism of the unicorn did not only impact works of literature. “Late medieval and Renaissance pictures of a virgin holding a slain unicorn on her lap resemble those of pieta- depictions of Mary holding the dead Christ” (Sax 2013:9). Given this information, it is evident…

I awoke in the early hours of the morning as usual. The air was thick and wet, but the day’s hunt wouldn’t wait. I got up and stretched my legs before checking the traps I set the evening before. The forest seemed unsettlingly too quiet. Did I wake up earlier than I usually would have? I walked down to the waterhole, to see if any of my nets were filled. There was a soft mist over the shallows, creating an ominous feel. I checked up and down the banks, but my nets had all vanished. With the sounding of the raven’s caw, I decided to head back up to camp. I heard a quick rattle in the leaves due east of my position, so I made haste to draw my bow and hold her steady in firing position. My breath was heavy as the musk in the air poured into my lungs.…

In the story ‘A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings’ there is a constant theme of suspending disbelief. Firstly, the story is about Pelayo and his wife Elisenda, who find an old man with wings in their courtyard and believe he is a lonely castaway. It is not until they talk to their neighbor who tells them that they he is an Angel who is on its way for the sick child.…

One of this story’s difficult aspects is the sense of uncertainty it creates by leaving important facts unresolved and seeming to offer several possible interpretations for its events. The reader is never allowed to doubt that the old man and his strange wings are as “real” as anything else in the story; yet the reader can never be sure just what he is — a heavenly angel, a sad human who happens to have wings, or perhaps some other, unexplained possibility. This deliberate uncertainty can leave readers feeling a bit cheated — particularly in what seems to be a fairy tale. Stories are expected to have clear-cut meanings, and the author is expected to reveal them to the reader; if not, there is a tendency to feel he has failed in his storytelling, or that his audience has failed as readers. But in works of realism (and many other forms), ambiguity is often used as an intentional effect, to make a story seem less “storylike,”…

Asher looks at him, “Are you my fairy godfather?” The man gives him a kind smile, “Can you please help me? I would like to go to the ball but…” he looks at his torn clothes, “I don’t have anything to wear.” The fairy godfather smiles and lifts the wand. A cloud of blue dust surrounds him and when it is gone, Asher is dressed in a baby blue suit with a white sash and white shoes. Asher hugs his fairy godfather and he returns the hug. The fairy father then makes a pumpkin into a magnificent carriage and four white mice into beautiful stallions. Asher looks at them and his face lights up with joy. He looks at Bruni and she barks repeatedly at him before the fairy godfather turns her into a stagecoach. “At the stroke of midnight the magic will wear off and I hope that you are home,” The fairy godfather says. Asher smiles and nods, jumping into the carriage. By the time they arrive it is nine o’clock. Asher runs into the palace just in time to see a young woman with black hair pulled into a bun and a cream colored dress with a red belt start to walk down the stairs. Everyone turns and looks at her, clapping. Asher just stares at her and she walks over to him, “Would…

Fantasy stories are know to have at least these four things, a prince in a far away land, a princess that will fall in love with the prince, a major conflict, and of course a happy ending. Peter S. Beagle changes the face of traditional fantasy stories in his book The Last Unicorn. A unicorn embarks on a journey to save all the other unicorns and along the way she meets Schmendrick, a failed magician, and an old maiden named Molly. Together they travel to King Haggard’s castle to search for the unicorn’s enemy, red bull, who is holding all the other unicorns captive. During her journey to the castle, the unicorn learns about the joys and sorrows of being human before meeting her true love Prince Lir. In the end, the unicorn is forced to leave her true love forever. At first glance, The Last Unicorn may seem like a fun children’s book, but it is actually filled with sophisticated themes such as identity, true heroism, reality, and human emotion.…

    Fallen Sick on a Journey

Matsuo Basho was a famous Japanese poet, who traveled across Asia, mostly on foot, unfortunately on one such a journey he had fallen sick and a stomach illness claimed his life. While Basho was ill he wrote “Oku No Hosomichi” which was essentially about seasons and the process of dying. In lines 10-12 he says: “In the cicada's cry No sign can foretell How soon it must die” I believe he is referring to himself, that even though his relatives and those close to him know he’s dying and are mourning his passing, no one knows when the day will come that he’s not with them anymore. In the lines 13-15 He first mentions that he is alone “No one travels Along this way but I, This autumn evening” in lines 19-21 He speaks of being lonely “The years first day thoughts and loneliness; the autumn dusk is here.“ And later on in the poem he mentions it twice more in lines 33-38: “No blossoms and no moon, and he is drinking sake all alone!” “Won't you come and see loneliness?…
