Part 1: Diversity within the community

1. Describe a range of appropriate investigative methods that can be used to explore diversity in a community.

There are a few different ways that are available to the public to investigate and obtain how diverse a community is. The first is observational, this requires the person to decide what they want to record and make up a simple table to do this. Depending on what they would like to know sometimes observation may not be helpful on its own as there are things like ethnicity and religion that are not obvious without asking the person. It may be that you can make a simple questionnaire and give to the community to obtain this information. It is also important to decide the time scale of the observation and where this will take place. If there are a number of things you want to record it may be better to have more than one person observing. The second way is through the many websites that hold an extensive list of all communities and statistics. These can be the local authority sites, the government website and the others that hold a vast range of information and statistic including the Office National Statistics, Neighbourhood Statistics and Nationmaster.
