In Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957, a group of 9 African American students attended an all-white school. Ernest Green, the oldest of the nine, went to the school to receive a better education and a better chance for the future. However when he and the rest of the nine got to the school on the first day, There was the Arkansas National Guard and many protesters not letting them into the school. So many people were there resisting because they did not want to desegregate the school. The National Guard was there because the Governor placed them there. The only reason that the Governor placed them in front of the school is because he wanted to get reelected. People in the community that were prejudice against African Americans told him that if he didn’t stop the nine that he would not get elected again.
The Little Rock 9 did eventually get into the school. This happened when President Eisenhower removed the National Guard and instructed them to protect the students. When the student did finally get into the school they were treated very badly. Some of the other students threw food at the nine. Even the teachers treated the nine poorly. Some of the teachers failed or made the courses harder just for the nine students. However, even though Ernest Green had all the troubles, he still was able to graduate high school. After school, he was able to go to a nice college and his entire tuition was paid for.
The events at Little Rock affected all of America. All of America watched the events that were happening in Little Rock. A lot of people were appalled by what was happening. After these events many schools throughout America started to desegregate faster. This movie shows that even though there were many people did not want desegregation but there were many more, including the President, who called for it and pushed for it to happen faster.
I think that this movie is very important. The movie teaches people what happened in Little
