racism in the south was out of control. People now saw how bad blacks was hated. Alex Wilson was a journalist. Counts photo of Alex L. Wilson beaten by a white segregationist also went viral. “An african american, journalist, was attacked outside of central high school by a man wielding a brick” (Tougas 3). It illuminated the fact that Alex didn’t do anything to get attacked and they attacked him for being African American. It showed how bad he got beaten up for being black. It made people see how things was escalating. Lastly, This shows how bad things was getting for the little rock nine. Elizabeth house was bombed, Things was getting very bad. In a Mighty Long Way the media failed to show everything that happened to the little rock nine.
Elizabeth sees the video footage of the attack on wilson and feels kinship with him. Elizabeth said, “I was horrified when i saw the attack on the evening news. As porters who were risking their own lives to tell our story” (LaNier 86) Elizabeth feels horrible that he got attacked just for trying to share the little rock nine story. She feels like they shouldn’t have to deal with attacks just to get people to see what they got to go through everyday. News coverage motivated people to get involved. “The news coverage motivated people to get involved.” (Tougas 45). It showed how bad things was getting because they needed people to step up and help the little rock nine. Lastly, this shows that things escalated to the point where they needed people to come and help them out and step into the little rock nine
shoes. During the desegregation of the little rock central high school the media illuminated certain events. Showing what they had to go through just to get a education. This is showing that things was so incomplete. This was so important because she was only a teenager trying to get a education but instead went through so much for being black.
