Ruby is the face of Ruby Pier, where Eddie worked at as a maintenance worker. Ruby was once married to a man named Emilie. He was the reason for the existence of Ruby Pier, he had created it. One day, Ruby Pier had caught on fire and he went in to save his wife, Ruby. He then had died in the fire, but saved Ruby. She had then decided to fix up Ruby Pier, but left it alone, herself. The point of meeting Ruby was, she had taught Eddie to let go of anger. To never hold grudges and always forgive people, like Eddie’s father. She had mentioned a few times throughout the story, that there is always two sides to a story. “Holding anger is poison. It eats you from inside. We think that hating is a weapon that attacks the person who harmed us. But hatred is a curved blade. And the harm we do, we do to ourselves. Forgive, Edward. Forgive.” (141-142). The fourth person Eddie had met was Margarite. Margarite was Eddie’s wife. Eddie had met her from work, Ruby Pier. He had met her after coming back from war. After getting married, Marguerite had sadly died of a brain tumor, leaving Eddie alone, and devastated. When he saw Margarite, she had taught him a lot about love. She had said there was multiple forms of love. And some forms were stronger than others. She had said that lost love was the most powerful form. “Lost love is still love, Eddie. It takes a different form, that’s all… Life has to end, she said. But love doesn’t.” (173). The very last
