Essay About Racism
In all of humanity, there was one thing that was always in our lives no matter how much we tried to get rid of it--racism. Racism is a giant problem in the world and it is still lurking today, as discussed in the articles “Is Everyone A Little Bit Racist?” by Nicholas Kristof and “Black Men and Public Spaces” by Brent Staples. Racism is everywhere and in everyone, as anybody can be racist, all races are stereotyped, some worse than others, and most discriminate without even knowing it. Fortunately there are solutions to the worldwide situation but some do believe in racial inequality and that it is alright to put others below them. With racism, we have taken it to the worse level, making it part of people's everyday lives, both whites and blacks.

The horrible problem is our own “police arrest blacks at 3.7 times the rate of whites for marijuana possession,” despite the fact that “ both use marijuana at roughly similar rates” (Kristof, 1). The police stereotype blacks, hispanics, and whites, believing that blacks are hispanics are muggers and criminals while whites are always going by the law, not performing crimes whatsoever. When they drive throughout the city, they assume the group of blacks are associated with a drug gang or bank robbers and at the same time conclude a small crowd of whites had just left a friend’s party. During this time, the police would stop and talk to the blacks, asking them questions about their recent whereabouts and if they had drugs on them. At the exact same moment, it would be the whites who are secretly selling marijuana and robbing others of their hard earned money. Whites are thought through our culture to be always better than blacks in all situations, because on the news it is the black man robbing the bank, or the hispanic group killing innocent children. It is unfair only darker-skin people are shown for their crimes on live television and whites are easily forgotten, left out of the problem of being a target for racism.
