May Crowning

Every year a court is picked to crown Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and this year is no different. It is an honor to crown Mary because she is the one who leads us to Jesus and she let God work through her. We are always asked to pick a person to crown Mary and I believe that I deserve to be the one crowning Mary. I deserve to crown Mary because I am a very academic student, I like to help out, and I am very involved in school.

As a student, I strive to do my best in school. I have received High Honors for at least all of my years here at St. Patrick. When it comes to my academics, I do not take it as a joke. My academics can make or break me, but I choose for them to make me the best student I can be. Learning new material is something that I look forward to everyday because I know that every material can open up another door in my future. I show a positive effect when it comes to learning things. As an academic person, I joined the Decathlon team. It is a very studious, yet fun, experience. I studied as much as a I could and I knew that in the end all my studying would pay off.

As Catholics, we have to treat others just as Jesus did. I help out in school in any way possible. I have participated in church activities by reading, altar serving, ushering, and taking up the bread and body of Jesus. In school, I help out my classmates and teachers. When I see that a student is struggling on their work, I always go up to them and give them all of my assistance. If someone needs to finish their project that is almost due, I help them color or write because doing this is going to get them closer to finishing. I know that helping out a student will not hurt me, but I will benefit from it. When a teacher needs help cleaning up their classroom, I would rather stay inside knowing that they will be able to finish faster. If a teacher asks for assistance, I do not think twice about helping them. Helping the teacher clean up, pick up

In order to delve into my academic self-concept it is important to first grasp the meaning of self-concept. The class text book defines self-concept as one’s identity in their own mind. It is what a person thinks and feels about themselves and their thoughts. I have grown a lot academically throughout my collegiate career. I have experimented with different learning styles and test preparations to discover my best fit. In the beginning, I never thought that academics was to be taken too seriously. I knew my assignments had to be completed, but I strived to pass, not to excel and succeed. I did the minimum and nothing more. This worked for the first few months, but I quickly learned that doing the minimum was not going to get me anywhere and I needed to change something fast.…
