1800 CE, around the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in Europe (Crutzen’s original suggestion), whereas other potential candidates for time boundaries have suggested an earlier date before the Holocene Epoch. From my findings, I believe that the Anthropocene should be ranked as an epoch. An epoch contains more than one age and I found that humanity has greatly influenced the environment more so than any organism on Earth at an increasing rate. The Holocene Epoch was given since the end of the last major glacial epoch, or “ice age”. Another name for the Holocene that is used is ‘Anthropogene’ or the “Age of Man”. During this epoch, we have seen the development of human knowledge and technology, which is used to understand the changes we see, to predict their effects, and to stop or reduce the damage that humanity is doing to themselves and the Earth. Today, during the ‘Anthropocene Epoch’ we will continue to see changes in the environment and formally understand how human activity is damaging the Earth; causing climate change, sea level rise, animal extinction etc..
Proxy for the Anthropocene: The mark of the beginning of the ‘Anthropocene’ epoch should be after the last major ice age during the “Age of Man”, because the term refers to how human activity has and is affecting the
