Christians, who are descendants of the Assyrian empire and the only native group in northern Iraq, and the Yazidis who believe in an ancient religion and live in southern Syria. The establishment of a safe haven is probably the best solution since the Iraqi constitution guarantees rights to Assyrians and to own their own province and the Nineveh Plains in Northern Iraq is the traditional homeland of the Assyrians (Anweya).
