Essay On Community Board Meeting
ATTENDANCE AT A COMMUNITY BOARD MEETING

1. Before you attend the meeting, write down your expectations. How many people will attend? What are the topics that will be addressed? What will the site be like? Compare these notes with your actual experience and describe this in your report.
I attend my first community board meeting and I thought that there would be about 25 people but to my surprise there were more than 45 people in attendance. Upon arrival to the board meeting I imagined that the topics that would be discussed were human resources, facilities and education. The true topics of discussion within the board meeting was about crime, rehabilitation of a retaining wall and noise disturbances. I assumed the meeting would take place

The chief also mentions particular crimes in the community that people should look out for. One big discussion that occurred in the boarding meeting was that the chief of police is going to assign police officers to each neighborhood in the community, so that people can report any problems to the officers directly. Discussions was about noise, road conditions and the rehabilitation of the retaining wall. Decisions are voted on and the attendees have the option of rebuttal.
4. How effective is the mechanism of community boards in reaching out to and learning about community level concerns? Would you attend another meeting? Would you consider becoming more involved in the future? Explain why.
The mechanism of community boards in reaching out and learning about the concerns within the community is very effective because each member of the board noted each issue and also brought in the chief of police to solve the issues within the community. I am looking forward to going to the next community board meeting because I would like to get involved in helping out the kids with disabilities. I feel the kids with disabilities get left out in our society and I want to get them more involved in community

The Okaloosa County Commissioners meeting held on 12/2/2014 was conducted in a formal manner, and they used the Robert Rules of Order throughout the meeting. My immediate reaction to this meeting was that it seemed closed to the public and intimidating. I was surprised that the beginning started with a prayer. Items on the agenda moved quickly, and at the end each section they open the meeting to the public for comments.…

On October 8 2013 I was able to watch the Centennial School District Board meeting live via their website, which worked very much to my advantage because transportation was a major issue. The meeting took place at the town hall in Warminster, PA. The mission of the school board is to provide an environment for all of its students where they can maximize their potential in education and extracurricular activities with as little difficulty as possible. The school board specifically establishes and evaluates policies for operation of the schools, selects a Superintendent, approves a budget, levies taxes as a means of raising revenue, hires administration, establishes curriculum content, and adopts textbooks upon administrative recommendation. The members of the board include: President Dr. Andrew Pollock, Superintendent Dr. Joyce Mundy, Vice President Betty Huf, Asst. Secretary Kati Driban, and school directors Steven Adams, Michael Hartline, Charles Kleinschmidt, Jane Lynch, Mark Miller, and David Shafter.…

The main topic that I wanted to hear about the most was about having chickens in town. They were going to have a resolution but since one of the council members were questioning it they decided to do a public hearing before they make the resolution. Both sleep, and psychological and cognitive function, are areas of concern that are consistently addressed in older adults, as studies have shown that these two very distinct areas, are actually very closely related. It is said that along with other physical changes in aging, so too does sleep patterns change. Most often, older adults have complaints of difficulty sleeping, or difficulty staying asleep. In this paper I plan to address these two important issues, focusing on more specifically sleep and the connection if any to the development of delirium in our geriatric population.…

I attended an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. The meeting I attended was on a Sunday morning at 8am. A group of 11 gathered to share their experiences under the deadly addiction of alcoholism and it was an open lead meeting. It was a very interesting experience for me. I have never been to an AA meeting, so I really didn't know what to expect. When I got there everyone was really friendly and I explained that I was a UNK student and I was just there to observe because I had to write a paper about AA. The first part of the meeting was a reading from the big book as they call it. The first reading summarized the AA creed and the second was a passage from the “book.” I noticed that almost everyone had a copy of it. It looked just like a Bible, and indeed, they treated it as such. A guy reading the mission of AA started the meeting and then a different man read the 12 steps that an alcoholic follows to gain sobriety. Then the lead was introduced and he had everyone go around the room and say their name. When everyone said their name they would say, "My name is "¦and I am an alcoholic." The guy giving the lead told about how he started drinking and the various experiences that he went through while drinking. Some of the things he talked about sounded really rough. It was surprising to me that someone could stand up there and tell their life story and all the awful things they had done. After he talked about her alcoholism, he then began to discuss how he became sober and how great it feels to have his sobriety. Following was a guy in his early 50s who spoke about his sobriety ,he discussed about his struggles with alcohol and how he feels like he don’t have a ‘’real family “, joining these meeting gives him a family that was After the lead, the group leader came up and read announcements. Then a collection basket was passed around, and everyone put some donation into the basket. Then the group leader asked for everyone to hold hands and say the "Our Father" prayer.…

The purpose of this position paper on community policing is to weigh the pros and cons. In order to write an effective position paper, the idea of know what the predecessors stand on this subject would not be a benefit because it is not his problem anymore. If I where to be the new Chief of Police, I would want my opinion to be of value and not regurgitated information from the prior Police Chief. This would be my opinion and if it is not what the City Mayor wants to hear then at least I still had my integrity and dignity. Community policing is a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies, which supports the problem-solving techniques and partnerships. Positively addressing the immediate conditions that give a rise in community issues such as crime, disorder and fear. The community feels like the department is out of touch with the need as a whole and community policing could be the answer to regain the trust needed to be more effective.…
