Essay On Crvical Dysplasia
The Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP) is used to diagnose and treat abnormalities of the uterine cervix. LEEP is done to treat cervical dysplasia, which is abnormal tissue growth in the cervix. The treatment options are individualized by each patient’s age, risk factors and preferences. Mild forms of cervical dysplasia will self-resolve over time. Dysplasia is considered a precancerous condition in the severe forms but can be removed completely with a wire loop utilizing electrosurgical technology in the office with excellent result and recovery.
Another abnormality is the presence of warts (condylomata or genital warts), which are caused by a virus called Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). This virus is almost always sexually transmitted. Complications are rare, however, they may include: perforation of the uterus, infection, excessive bleeding, allergic reactions to local anesthetic, cervical stenosis or cervical incompetence. PREPARATION BEFORE THE PROCEDURE
You will not need any medications prior to the procedure, however taking 3 or 4 200mg Advil/ Motrin or 2 220mg Aleve orally 30 minutes before the procedure is advisable. If you require prophylactic antibiotic treatment for mitral valve prolapsed (MVP), please let us know. A complete history will be obtained before the procedure begins and we will do a urine pregnancy test. Including preparation, the procedure takes about 20 minutes. You will be asked to remove all jewelry and metal objects if you are wearing any. You will have local anesthesia on the uterus, the only sensation you may feel is a slight tingling.
