Drinking While Driving Ever lost someone close or heard of someone who lost their life to drunk driving? Drinking and driving is becoming a serious problem that is spiraling out of control. If awareness of the true danger of drinking and driving doesn't get out to the public America could be facing serious problems. These problems can result in the average life expectancy of a person becoming smaller and smaller. Each year this situation becomes a bigger problem that affects not only the drunk driver but everyone around them as well. Drinking while driving needs to be stopped because is causes many deaths. Well in all honesty nothing can stop these horrible accidents but ourselves. People have to take the first move to make a great change. However, people have created things to reduce the number of drunk drivers. The company NHTSA strives every day to eliminate this dangerous problem to make the world a safer place. NHTSA does this by financially supporting public campaigns and put on state safety programs around the United States. Another easy way to help the drunk driving cause is to have not one but 2 designated drivers to insure no one is driving the car while having alcohol. A great example to prevent drunk driving is the ignition lock is something that is becoming very popular to parents who suspect or want to prevent their children from drinking and driving. The ignition lock is installed into your car and it won't let you start your car unless you have a BAC lower than 0.02%. The legal amount of alcohol you can have in your system while driving has to be lower than 0.08%. This legal alcohol limit is very easy to reach, 0.08% is equivalent to 4 oz. of wine if you are less than 130 pounds. The ignition lock has helped significantly by reducing the drunk drivers by 12%. While the number may seem small it is a small step to helping and overcoming the drinking while driving
