One huge reason the great empire of Rome fell was because of the decline in their morals and values. Violence and crimes rose steadily as Rome fell. During Pax Romana, the golden age of Rome, there were at least 32,000 prostitutes. In the United States of America our morals are declining as well. In my generation, people would rather look out for themselves than help others around them, I think that’s sad. Also in the US there are around 1 million prostitutes. In some parts of Nevada, prostitution is even legal.
Another reason why Rome fell is because of inflation. In Rome, inflation happened because Rome was getting too large. When Rome stopped invading and conquering other lands, the flow of gold into the country stopped. Once the gold stopped, they used less gold to make the coins. Because of the less gold into the coins it devalued the currency so much, people reverted back to trading food and clothing. In the past, America has suffered inflation as well. Many Roman farmers lost their jobs to wealthy men who used slaves. A farmer who pays for workmen cannot produce goods as cheaply as those who do not pay for workmen and instead use slaves for free. Once the farmer loses his farm and job the workmen lose their jobs as well. During one time, Roman emperors had to import free grain to 100,000 people in Rome. These unemployed had nothing else to do other than wreak havoc. Crime and violence rose from those who were unemployed. In America, 4.9%-5% of the whole population is unemployed. The unemployment has gotten better from 2010 but technology is getting better and robots are taking over many jobs that humans once
