In order to keep people from not drinking too much and causing trouble the Greeks knew of this god called Dionysus. He was the god of wine and he was known to get drunk. When he was drunk bad things would happen like rioting. He was used to discourage drinking because of the problems it could cause. Love was explained through the goddess Aphrodite, who was very beautiful. War was explained through the god Aries who had blood lust and would fight against other gods. He would cause men to fight each other and before battle they would worship him to bring luck to their side. Forced marriage was common at this time. Hera, the wife of Zeus, was the goddess of marriage. She would make sure marriages would stay a thing and prevent divorce or splitting up, which was very uncommon or unheard of at this time. On the opposite spectrum the goddess Artemis would protect women who didn't want to be married. This goddess was said to have killed husbands who were abusive and bad for their wives. Human life coming to an end was also explained with the gods. Thanatos, a god similar to today's Death, would kill humans and had them off to Hermes, the messenger god, who would lead the souls to the underworld where the god Hades rules.
