Propaganda was used by the Nazi Party in the early years of Adolf Hitler's position in Germany and his later placement as supreme leader. His use of propaganda helped him maintain power and implement Nazi policies. While imprisoned for treason for his role in the Beer Hall Putsch of 1923, Hitler began his quest and wrote the memoir and propaganda piece known as …show more content…
“Mein Kampf” or "My Struggle", in which he predicted an approaching European war that would conclude with “the extermination of the Jewish race in Germany.” Hitler was obsessed with the idea of the “pure” or superiors German race he called “Aryan,” and for that race to expand. After he was released from prison, Hitler took time to enhance his party’s low position and rise to power. On January 20, 1933, he was named chancellor of Germany. Hitler later anointed himself as “Fuhrer” or Germany’s supreme ruler. An early blueprint for antisemitism and racism towards those who weren't "Aryan" was clearly expressed before being the ruler of Germany, this would lead to the explicit use of harsh propaganda pieces towards Jewish people.
Hitler and Nazi propagandists played on well established German antisemitism that previously existed. The Jews were blamed for many negative aspects of society. In 1935, antisemitic laws in Nazi Germany were introduced known as the Nuremberg Laws, the laws forbid those who didn't classify as Aryans and political opponents of the Nazis from several aspects of common everyday society. On 13 March 1933, The Nazis established the Ministry of Propaganda, with Joseph Goebbels as its Minister. Its purpose was to establish their enemies in the public which included the Jews. Hitler declared that he and the Nazis wished to destroy "Jewish Bolshevism". Hitler said what he disliked about "Jewish Marxism" was democracy, pacifism and internationalism, with the Jews being behind Bolshevism (an antisemitic rumor which alleges that the Jews were at the origin of the Russian Revolution and held major power among Bolsheviks.) Bolshevism was once regarded at a Nazi congress rally in 1935: "Bolshevism is the declaration of war by Jewish-led international subhumans against culture itself." These ideals were used to justify the mass murder of six million Jews. Propaganda was a role that played into the indoctrination of an entire country and it's many people that caused the Holocaust.
The Nazis were successful at creating a massive cult, through grand orchestrated political rallies, highly organised events with banners, and the media.
The goal of this indoctrination was to appeal to the patriotism of the German people and repudiate the Jews. Unfair representation of Jews in posters and Nazi political media was wide spread. The Nazis and it's compatriots published many books including beliefs of German nationalism, eugenics and antisemitism. Nazis captured this already existing ideas and put it in their own publications. Textbooks and teachings used in classrooms conformed to the ideas of the Nazi party at the time. The Nazis created many films that promoted their views. Their Department of Film helped organize film propaganda. Propaganda spanned through all art including comics, fine art, magazines, radio, newspapers, and posters. Jews were identified as an “alien race” that consumed the nation, poisoned its culture, controlled its economy, and enslaved its workers. Jews were represented with the physical appearance as having a large nose and coat, self hating and scary, untrustworthy and greedy. This excelled preexisting ideas of the Jews to incorporate Nazi
ideals.
The Nazi regime took great advantage of their power over Germany to proliferate unfair stereotypes and laws towards the Jewish people with propaganda. They classified the Jews as parasites of Germany's culture and economy with no room to escape from such stereotypes. The created laws to detest Jews from participating in many everyday activities. The indoctrination of Germany's people by Hitler and the Nazi regime constructed what would be the Holocaust.
