Lecture classes cater to the very few people who actually learn that way. Since visual learners are the most common student teachers should use more diagrams and pictures when teaching. In language classes this helps tremendously. Students could always look up what a word means but they have a hard time memorizing it. When there is a picture present the student can always think about that image and link the word to it. This could be applied to countless subjects. Kinesthetic learners absolutely hate this style of learning. Since about a third of students are kinesthetic learners I think their learning style should be catered to in the class room. They like to try things out for themselves until they figure it out. Like in math classes they can get a formula for solving equations but they'll never fully understand how to use it properly until they try it out. When they sit in the classroom taking notes all class period they have to wait until they leave the class to try it out, which takes away time from them to learn the content to the best of their abilities.
