The lesbian, gay, bisexual and queer students claim to experience tremendous amounts of discrimination among college campuses, although the Queer Inclusion on Campus group who has been advocating for equal rights proposed changes for the LBGTQ community at the University of Oklahoma including, safer learning environments, safe and inclusive housing options, bias incident reporting system, preferred names in the OU system, inclusive student healthcare and inclusive bathroom and exercise facilities. …show more content…
The definition of safe room is a room in a house or other building that is invulnerable to attack or intrusion, and from which security operations can be directed. Susann Schaller said, “University campuses are places for diversity. Under the collective aim of studying and learning, different ages, genders, ethnicities, abilities and sexual orientations are united” (Schaller 100). This means that all types of people on college campuses should come together as one and be one community and not divide themselves into different groups. This does not include clubs and organizations, this is referring to the people as individuals. One way students could do this without setting up places for which only LGBTQ students can go and other groups aren’t welcome is a focus group so that people can begin to learn the needs of the students and get a better understanding on the way LGBTQ students learn and think (Schaller
