Essay On Military Quality
The most important quality is integrity. A strong moral compass and solid personal values are essential in becoming a successful USMA cadet and, one day, a successful Army officer. Character does matter, and in the professional environment that the USMA provides, it is something that can never take a day off. For the follower, good character and integrity mean that your team can trust you, count on you and rely on you. For the leader, it means the chain of command, in both directions, can have faith in your discretion. The second most important quality is a willingness to learn. As a USMA cadet, learning evolutions will take place from the first day to the last and each cadet needs to be willing to learn from leaders, learn by doing and learn from their own mistakes. At the outset of four years, cadets will learn to be good followers and start to assimilate to the intricate, detail oriented lifestyle. …show more content…
As an Army officer, it is imperative to remember that no rank exempts you from learning. Knowledge is power and power drives an Army. The third most important quality is a willingness to do. Motivation, commitment and tenacity are abundantly important in the Army’s atmosphere. Successful cadets at the USMA are those that are driven to complete tasks, fulfill directives and eagerly respond to orders. Successful Army officers are those that are goal oriented and committed to getting things done. Integrity, a willingness to learn and a willingness to do are, in my opinion, the most important qualities in becoming a successful USMA cadet and a successful Army officer.     Two of my biggest strengths are discipline and leadership. This was started in my household where my parents were the disciplinarians of the home front. My parents taught me that it is important to be respectful and always use common courtesies and if a rule or guideline was set; I would need to follow it exactly as it was written so there will be no room for error.
