Many families have the tendency to send their elderly ones to nursing homes because they cannot provide the care to them needed. When in actuality those elderly adults are being abused and mistreated in the nursing homes. At these nursing homes elderly people are only being assisted in dressing, bathing or when they need medical attention. The elderly should be able to live comfortably, be given the respect they deserve and human rights as a citizen of the U.S. The most disappointing thing is these abusive acts are overlooked everyday with thousands of residents’ life in danger.

There was a bill put into place upgrading nursing care for residents’ and also violations and penalties for any staff member that fails to meet the new standards. Nurses would be fined a maximum fine of $10,000 would increase to $25,000 and $100,000 if they had a cause in a residents’ death. Now with this bill being put into place residents’ have some type of rights. Some disagreed with the bill and said that instead of fining they should be finding ways to improve the residents’ care.
I feel as though to stop this resident abuse in nursing homes there should be more cameras put up around maybe even in each resident’s room to pay close attention to their care takers. Also there should be more people in charge making trips to the nursing homes every other day to check on the residents and on their staff to see how they are actually performing. Then, when hiring the nurses to look after the residents resumes should be looked over more thoroughly inspected. Honestly this is a problem getting out of hand because it’s not a problem being recognized enough so the abuse goes
