In the United States, many of its Founding Fathers had a negative view of political parties, yet; the majority of these same men found themselves affiliated with one or the other at some point during their careers in government. A political party is defined as an organized group of people with generally similar political aims and opinions who band together in hopes of gaining any number of public office positions. Throughout the history of the United States, starting with the Federalists and Anti-Federalists, political parties have developed over the years into the current system. Today, the major parties that exist are the Democrats and Republicans. There is also another party class, called the Third Party. Being that my family and I reside in the lower middle class, it seems that such a party has more sympathy and respect for the working class rather than the wealthy. In other areas besides economics, I admire this party’s take on social issues, especially its support of gay marriage, it's pro-choice tendencies and universal healthcare. The Democratic Party is one who seeks out and encourages new ideas and policies in order to better this country, rather than being cemented in its same monotonous ways. Furthermore, I agree with the party encouraging illegal immigrants to gain citizenship. This country was founded by immigrants seeking asylum, why not continue to provide the same opportunities to others? Altogether, while I can understand republican standards, I don’t think that their ideas are relevant to the society we are living in today.
