Sexually Transmitted Disease: Final Paper
I chose to write about Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) because I figured most people would want to steer clear from this topic. A Sexually Transmitted Disease is an infection passed by bodily fluids from one person to another during sexual acts. What people do not know is 15 million new cases of STDs are reported annually. There are more than 25 diseases that can be transmitted through sexual activity. Adolescences and young adults are at high risk for getting a sexually transmitted disease. The most common STDs include Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Trichomonas’s, Genital Herpes, Hepatitis B, HPV, and HIV. Chlamydia is recognized in women by discharge or vaginal bleeding from the vagina, or abdominal pain. Men experience a white drip from their penis and swollen testicles. It is easily cured with antibiotics but becomes more difficult to cure and can lead to infertility if untreated. Gonorrhea causes heart trouble, blindness, skin disease, arthritis, and causes damage to the reproductive organs. Can be cured with antibiotics but is increasingly harder to cure because of new the resistant acquired from the new bacteria. Syphilis is a bacterial infection that you get between 1-12 weeks after have sex. During stage one you get painless sores or sores on the mouth or sex organs. These sores eventually go away but you still have the syphilis bacteria. During stage two you have a rash anywhere on the body and have flu-like symptoms. These symptoms also go away but you still have syphilis. Trichomonas is caused by the protozoan parasite and most people have no symptoms of the disease.
