This ad isn’t very complicated and has clear and simple parts. Through the simplicity of the ad, the audience feels inclined to buy Diet Coke because of the fact that it’s “diet”, Taylor Swift is very famous and it is good for creativity. Nowadays, many people worry about their outer appearance, especially their weight. While they may have enjoyed a nice, cool can of Coca-Cola before, some can feel like they need to restrict their Coke intake so that they don’t gain too much weight. The first words that jump out of the picture are the ones in red, since everything else is black and white. Those words say: “Coke” in the classic Coca-Cola font and appear in the top left corner, along the right border and on the can itself. They also have the word “diet” on top, telling the audience that this is a Diet Coke, the same world famous drink but with less sugar and calories. While the can of regular Coke has about 140 calories, the diet Coke has no calories (Coca-Cola Products Facts). Additionally, she became famous very quickly after having started her career at the young age of 13, thus many people have followed her for years and immediately notice this ad because it has her in it. Furthermore, she recently became very famous because of a couple songs that went viral including “Shake it off” and “Blank Space”. On the other hand, even people who do not know Taylor Swift will be interested in this ad because of its’ message.
In addition to telling the audience that this is a Diet Coke, it also says: “The Perfect Duo”. The definition of the word “duo” according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary is: “a piece of music that is performed by two musicians” (Merriam-Webster, Duo). With only Taylor Swift in the picture holding a can of Coke, it tells the audience that the second member of the duo is the Coke itself. That means that while drinking Coke, Taylor Swift is able to produce better music because of this perfect partner. Anyone who has an interest in music will be interested in something that helps boost creativity, and for it to be low on calories as well is definitely a
bonus. Though the ad may appear quite simple, it pushes the audience to buy Diet Coke because of its low quantities of calories, Taylor Swift endorsed and how it can help creativity. They’re all good marketing methods and designs, thus the audience subconsciously wants to buy the product.
