Many of those things included insurance, airlines, aviation, tourism, and security, loss of jobs, loss of family members, and loss of friends. Insurance lost more than one and a half times greater than the amount it cost from Hurricane Andrew, the largest disaster in terms of loss (Dearden, n.d.).
Airlines and aviation grounded flights in the United States and Canada for a long time after the 9/11 attack due to financial troubles for the airport industry, which became even worse after the attack, and safety for people. Many airlines became bankrupt or were threatened with bankruptcy due to how many people were scared about being in the airports or on planes (Amadeo, 2015).
Most airlines were required to give people refunds for their tickets after September 11, especially if they were unable to fly the day of the attacks. Thousands of layoffs to the airlines were made immediately after the attack. The fuel prices also increased greatly which caused many airlines to go under. Several people lost their jobs due to the airlines going under, which caused many people to go without jobs for a while, and most of them had to go back to school to get a job outside of the airline business (Amadeo,
