The many leaders of the Roman Empire made many poor choices pertaining to the way Rome was ran. All of their poor choices led to a bad economy, a corrupted government, and many other issues such as their constantly having to replacing emperors, overexpansion, and constantly being at war helped lead the fall of Rome. The of the Roman Empire was mostly due to poor decisions made by the many Roman leaders. The Roman Empire’s economy was horrid. “ Economic factors are cited as a major cause of the fall of Rome. ” The economics of Rome were one of many reasons Rome fall. They may have been small problems with the economy but all of the economic problems added up were bad for the Roman Empire’s economy. “Lesser problems with the economy of Rome that combined together to escalate financial stress.” No matter how small the problem was, or how many small ones, they all added up. In the end they contributed to the fall of the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire had over twenty man take the throne in the second and third century. “Being the Roman Emperor had always been a particularly dangerous job, but during the tumultuous second and third centuries it nearly became a death sentence.” Most of the Emperors of Rome were killed and replaced by the person that killed them, or had them killed. was a gruesome time period. “It soon became obvious that the Roman Empire had a major flaw. Without a system for selecting a new emperor, emperors could be made and deposed of by the Roman Legions” Without any proper way to select a new emperor it was a bloodbath when people wanted to become the emperor, all they had to do was kill the emperor and then they became the emperor. Another problem was the overexpansion. The Roman Empire was from what is now Britain and all the way down to Egypt, and from Mauritania over to further than Babylon. The Roman Empire was superior to other empires because it was so big.But is was to big to govern and protect all the time. “The Empire was too large to be easily governed.” There was not enough soldiers to keep it safe for the emperor, or the citizens. So barbarians came in a started killing people, because they could not protect themselves. The Roman Empire expanded mostly in its early years. “Rome expanded further during the period of the early Empire.” If they would not have expanded the Empire so far out, they might could have protected themselves, but they spread themselves out too far, it was hard to protect and became overrun with barbarians. Another reason Rome fell to its own accord was because of government corruption. “a key factor in Rome’s fall was the steady loss of focus and control over government as its aims were wanted for private gain by high-ranking bureaucrats and military leaders.” This means that people with high power was taking advantage of having more power and used that power for personal gain. “There was also the corruption and various oppressions issuing from the empire’s authorities and the rich that contributed to many common people thinking that the Empire and its authorities were not worth fighting and dying for.” Not only were there people in higher position taking advantage of it. So were people who had a lot of money. This made people no longer put their trust in them, and would no longer fight to keep the safe. So the government started hiring and recruiting barbarians to come and fight for them. Another reason for the fall of rome was because of the constantly being at war and the shortage of soldiers.
With the Roman Empire being so big and stretched out so far that the army became overstretched to where they could not protect the Empire that well. “The Roman Empire army became overstretched and needed more and more soldiers.” They started running out of men men in Rome to fight and protect, so they started using barbarians and foreign mercenaries as soldiers. “ The Barbarians, who has been conquered, and other foreign mercenaries were allowed to join the Roman army.” This caused problems too. Barbarians came in and took over and destroyed the
empire. The fall of the Roman Empire was due to the many bad decisions made by the rulers of the Empire. The constantly replacing emperors, the bad economy, the overexpansion, the corrupted government, and the constantly being at war all added up. The Roman Empire was weakened by their own bad choices so it collapsed
