Clemmy Sue Jarvis, a petite, vivacious woman of sixty-three, detested driving on rain soaked roads. However, she had no choice, late Saturday afternoon, but to cautiously, eased out of her driveway, and turn south on to Flat Bottom Road. All was well until she was about fifty yards, from her dearest friend Estelle Louise’s long dirt driveway and she skidded across a massive oil slick. As a result, she closed her deep-set green eyes and prayed, as her rusty Chevy pickup, pieced together with hairpins, bubble gum, and duct tape, spun in circles, down the middle of the country road. Eventually it slithered sideways and abruptly stopped. …show more content…

He let the ministries zip past (the pink, the white), and a series of stores on the main street, their windows flash ing. Now he was beginning the most pleasant part of the run, the real ride: a long street bordered withtrees, very little traffic, with spacious villas whose gardens rambled all theway down to the sidewalks, which were barely indi cated by low hedges. Abit inattentive perhaps, but tooling along on the right side of the street, heallowed himself to be carried away by the freshness, by the weightlesscontraction of this hardly begun day. Cruising on back roads there’s nothing in sight. No gas stations or any houses for that matter. You could hear the tops popping off a fresh beverage, and with that sound we knew our weekend had begun. Pandora had us crushing lyrics to every song on the playlist. With every sip you felt a rush of adrenalin pumping through your body like the bass coming from the speakers. Winding and twisting through the hills we creep closer and closer to our destination; Bear Kats, Lesterville Mo, a small town know for nothing more than its nice river accesses and great camping sites. A parade of cars filed into town, some pulling into the only liqueur store while others continued down the road. We hit the station meeting up with a few friends. We followed them down the last dirt road we say our prayers for a safe trip and a fun- filled weekend we would never forget.…

It was a day like every other in the busy city of Seattle. There were rain clouds above that made it gloomy. It looked like the perfect scene for a horror movie. Annabel "Red" Jackson was sitting in her room on this day listening to Stressed out by Twenty one pilots. The reason they call her "Red" is because she always has a red hoodie with a small heart right above her heart that she got from her grandmother on. No matter what the day is like. It could be one hundred degrees out and she would still have that red hoodie on. "Red?" Called her mother. "What mom?" She replied. "Your grandmother is sick and I need you to take her some soup to help her feel better." Said her mother. "It is raining out though. I don't want to get wet." Red replied to her mother.…

Temptation happens when the opportunity is presented to do what we know is wrong, whether against God, ourselves, or others. Being tempted is not wrong - it's the decision to do wrong and the corresponding action that follows.…

Penny, my driving instructor, was sitting beside me reminding me to breathe and that I was doing great. As I turned onto the next road, I was relieved to realize we were headed back to Augusta and that we were almost done. I began to settle in while going at a comfortable speed of 50 mph down a straight smooth road. Soon, we entered the hustle and bustle of town and once again the tenseness and panic crept in. I was stopped at the traffic light just before the uneven, dirt driveway of “The Driving School.” The light turned green and I rolled up to the entrance of the driveway with my left blinker on, but a man with a baby stroller was slowly making his way across the parking lot.…

Being a freshman at Miami University, many things are very different from the public school educational background back in Brooklyn, NY, where I was born and raised, until now residing in Oxford, OH, attending college. So far I have completed my first semester of college. I play football for the Miami University Football Team, but did not get to play my first year. So basically my hobbies are really just football. I attend Miami to study and receive my bachelors in Kinesiology/ Athletic Training. It is a real interesting and very fun major to be studying. I am not to very sure about any minors, because my academic interest has so many different opportunities just under that one major. I am currently taking 18 credit hours this semester. I have 3 Kinesiology courses, KNH 212, KNH 209, and KNH 206. AMS 207 (American Studies), ENG 105, ENG 112 (English), and EDT 110. Most of the writing assignments in my courses are very similar. We complete papers on the argumentative debates of topics, comparison, rhetoric etc.…

The purple sports car swerved briskly on the gray asphalt, nearly colliding into the unsuspecting mini van in the adjacent lane. “Will you stay in the lane?” I shouted in warning as the sound of my cousin’s easygoing laughter filtered the air-conditioned room. Looking away from my father’s unclouded computer screen, I gazed at my cousin’s right hand readied at the keyboard as her left hand dipped lazily into a crumpled bag of salty chips. Despite admonishing her, I could not help but be carried away by her infectious laughter and swiftly joined in. This was the very embodiment of my summer--leisurely days filled with heavily processed junk food along with the continued playthrough of our favorite video game: Saint’s Row.…
