They got off their sleds and waited a few minutes to see if they would hear anything inside, but they heard nothing. They slowly started to walk into the cave, as they walked deeper the darker it got aslo it grew colder the more they walked and every step they took you would think you could hear it for miles. They were slowly walking ahead, the one brother reached for his phone so he could use it as a flashlight, when he pulled the phone out the screen turned on, they heard this eary grown close by, so close he could feel the breath and vibration of the growl, it was like something inside was dreaming. He turned the light on and shined it forward and there it was, the Mountain Peak Monster. From the time Kiesha saw the phone turn onto the flash, he was standing up in front of the kids. The brothers turned around and ran as fast as they could, but oldest boy was a little slower at reacting and Kiesha swung with his massive muscular arm clawing the boy with his 5” claws, the young brother started to cry as he heard his older brother weeping and crying but he knew it was too late to look back. He ran to his snowmobile started it and flew down the hill, he didn’t even grab his helmet the boy barely knew how to find his way back to the lodge but he made it after what had seemed like an endless search. Every step we made on the thin and almost transparent layer of snow had a sudden fall and we heard the snap, crackle and crumble of the lanky branches, crisp leaves and woodlouse infested logs. Winter was killing the forest. The trees were hunched over and their dead beat bark was blistering under the harsh weight of the freezing bitter quilt which strained their aching ancient backs. A tunnel had been formed. It was as if they were frail, vile and disfigured old men with a dozen spindly limbs to wrap around each other for dear life. The barred branches resembled a prison in my eyes. This endless tunnel was hiding us from the crucial light of the evil eye, the moon. There were gaps in the endless arch so as to let the descending snow slowly fall on to the path we were destined to walk.…

Gununa Kawi Temple. Well, it used to be called that. Now it’s known as Gununa Kawi base camp. The world has fallen and these people still insist on doing their monkey chant, sorry “Kecak Dance”, every day without fail. They’re doing it right now. I can hear the faint “cak” sounds from the far end of the camp. They don’t want to get involved. Around me, people duck behind the fallen ruins of the temple, wielding guns in the dark. I’m pretty sure if the monkey dancers in the sky looked down now, they wouldn’t like what they saw.…

It is the place where I go after long days of strenuous activity whether it's skiing, biking, or a day on the lake. It's the place to go and grab a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold snowy day. The cabin offers comfort as well as entertainment at any time. From a wide variety of games such as pool, air hockey, tv, and board games, it is rare to find boredom in this place.. The main living room is spacious with high ceilings and cozy fireplace, perfect for an after ski snack. There are large windows on the upstairs to get an excellent view of the lake. Outside the cabin during the winter, there is plenty of snow to play around with and sled on. In the past, me and my two younger brothers have built sled tracks that go off of cliffs and land on icy patches of snow and who ever would go first would get $5. Of course the things I did back then were not the greatest ideas and usually ended up with a trip to the hospital. Often at night the sky is filled with stars that are visible on the deck of the second floor of my cabin and I have seen several shooting stars zoom across the sky. My favorite part about this cabin is the many memories that I have shared here with my family and relatives over the holidays and the joy that this special place has…

As usual with Marissa Meyer, this book is great, even better than her last one. It really goes in depth into the villain of the series. Marissa Meyer does an fantastic job of making you pity, Levana, the villain. All Levana ever wanted was love, and she's never received it. Especially not from her family. Her craving for this drives her to do horrible things, such as killing her own niece. I was slightly surprised that she wasn't the one who killed Chanary, her sister. She supposedly died of a lung related illness.…

I continue on the Briones to Diablo Trail and soon intersect with the Indian Creek Trail. As I near the junction, an owl hoots in the distance. The sound is coming from the oak woodland below, along Indian Creek, the namesake for the trail. I descend the trail in the twilight and head into the embrace of the woods. The owl continues its haunting call as I wander further down the trail. I stop and listen, and soon enough, I spot a dark silhouette on a branch not far away. I watch for a while, taking in the mystery and magic of the moment as the dark begins to close in. Soon it will be too dark to see in this sheltered area of the…
