couple of blocks from my apartment. The name of the restaurant will be anonymous, so I will
just refer to it as “Restaurant X,” in addition, I will call the employees in this project by other
names to protect their privacy. The main purpose of this ethnography is to compare the norms
of the employees when the manager is present at Restaurant X and when he or she is absent.
Norms are the behavior within a society or a group. How does the standard behavior change
when the general manager is there keeping an eye on everything compared to when the lower
level managers are in charge? The norms of the employees are the primary focus. But, How are

As you move further along, there is a salad bar. The salad bar has all the items needed
to make a salad. In the next room over, there is a vending machine, where customers can get
snacks and beverages. This room also contains the break room, where the employees take their
breaks and consists of a glass glass window which looks out into the parking lot, giving the
employees a view of the highway, basketball court, and a number of high rises. The break room
also has a large T.V. And two tables. There is also a dining room, which is the main area where
the observation will be performed. My observations for this project will take about six days.

proven that humans have been shown to be obedient in the presence of a person with authority.
For one part of my study, I will choose to interview one of the employees, leaving their name
anonymous. I will ask him or her what their jobs is and if he or she performed their job
differently than when the general manager is around. What I expect to find out is that when no
person with authority is around to enforce the rules or norms, then the norms change. When I
was in high school, I used to work at a fast food restaurant. When the general and assistant
managers were absent, I noticed that the work performances of my coworkers changed. The
behavior also changed. For example, the workers would have their phone out texting and
receiving phone calls. The workers would also joke around, laugh, and run around the restaurant,
and sneak food into their mouths. But, when the general and assistant store mangers were
present, then the behavior of the employees changed. They were more serious when they
