The context of this speech is that on January 18, 1986 the Challenger Shuttle exploded seventy-three seconds into flight. Aboard this aircraft was Christina McAuliffe, the first teacher in Space, who served as an inspiration for school kids nationwide. The speaker of this speech is Ronald Reagan, the President at the time, and his audience is the citizens of the United States. During his speech, Reagan creates a sense of unity and also expresses his feelings of grief. The purpose of each is to convince the Nation that he is a fellow American and to show the value he holds for human life. In order to achieve the impression that Reagan is a fellow American he takes on the persona of a sensitive family man who feels for the loss of his country.…
SNCs’ five paragraph order contained pertinent information, but was heavily punctuated with the use of filler words such as “uh” which hindered the flow of the order and made it difficult to understand. SNC’s Situation paragraph was briefed out of sequence. During movement to the objective SNC moved throughout the squad to ensure proper dispersion and physically moved subordinates who did not immediately correct dispersion. Upon receiving enemy contact, SNC issued clear orders and ADDRAC. SNC lost mission focus, to resupply a desperate squad, and instead allocated his entire squad to assault a lone enemy’s fighting position. During the assault, SNC lead from the front, directing his fire team leaders to alter direction of attack and maintain…
In the video, Kellyanne Conway: Press Secretary Sean Spicer Gave ‘Alternative Facts’ | Meet The Press | NBC News, Kellyanne used fallacies. The first fallacy she used was Red Herring, this is when the arguer redirects the subject to another issue. Kellyanne use this fallacy by saying “Do you think it is a fact that we spend billions of dollars on education in the last eight years only to have millions of kids still stuck in schools that fail them every day”. This information was so off topic and irrelevant to the situation. Todd Chuck replies “I understand this, but I dint understand that this is not what yesterday was about”.…
I believe that Ted Cruz did very well in the debate tonight. He had good arguments and strategies for all questions asked, and debated very well with the other presidential candidates. He is now my favorite candidate. I specifically remember agreeing with him over over Rubio on how to deal with ISIS. He suggested a devastating carpet-bombing of the entire state, where Rubio suggested that we aid Muslims in a civil war against ISIS. I think that Rubio’s approach is a horrible idea because it would just make us more meddlesome and our issue more complicated. I also noticed how multiple republican candidates were subtly trying to put Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in the same boat, by grouping them together in giving bad examples of policies…
Kayleen Soto, despite having a rather melancholy life, has conquered any problem that stood in her way and has evolved into a strong, brave, and respectable young woman. Kayleen’s legacy begins on August 3, 2002 at Denville Hospital in New Jersey in which her mother, Mirella Soto, gave birth to a baby girl with chocolate colored hair and eyes, and tan skin. Kayleen is the middle child of the Soto family, the oldest being her 16 year old sister, Destiny, and the youngest is her 9 year old brother Henry. Kayleen’s name was the first one Mirella saw on a baby naming website and thus, that’s how her name was decided.…
Although Hillary Clinton is the one running for president this time around does she compare to her husband bill Clinton in terms of rhetorical devices in her speeches using ethos, pathos and logos. Ethos is the appeal to ethics. It deals with the credablity of the speach. Pathos appeals to the emotions of the audience, and logos appeals to logic, and includes reasonable premise and proofs.…
Ted Cruz has been so far only GOP candidate to animadvert the same-sex court ruling sternly enough to ignite the social conservatives. While all other GOP candidates showed controlled reaction on the law, Cruz tears the court ruling down and takes the opposition of same-sex marriage as ‘front and center’ of his presidential election campaign. Most of the GOP candidates have criticized the law but ended up obeying it ‘showing respect’ to the law except for Cruz, who has initiated campaigning against same-sex marriage ruling in Iowa. He also has excoriated the court for upholding Obamacare. He suggests that the court has overstepped its bounds.…
On Monday, January 30, 2017, I interviewed Veronica Galvez and through the interview, I learned about Veronica’s life, her experience in the communication program, and her life outside of the program. Through this report, I will interpret her responses to a serious of questions that guided her to inform me about her life, her experience in the communication program, and her life outside of the program. I want to note that my interpretation of her responses may not be exact, still, I hope to depict the true Veronica Galvez.…
Speaker’s use diction, syntax, and imagery to reflect their tone. In her final argument, Clinton says “After the world watched with horror as the twin towers fell, he called in to a New York TV station, and even on that horrible day when thousands of people lost their lives, he couldn’t stop himself from pointing out that now, because the towers had fallen, a building he owned was the tallest in Lower Manhattan.” Hillary Clinton's use of words like “horror” and “horrible” sets an apathetic tone. By setting this tone Clinton hopes to show voters how self-centered Donald Trump is. While Clinton strives to prove that Donald Trump was self-centered, Trump ventured to show that Hillary Clinton was crooked. Donald Trump first called Hillary Clinton…
Protagonists of a story quickly become favorite characters of countless readers. In The Chosen by Chaim Potok, one of the protagonists is Reuven Malter, the son of David Malter. Along with his father, Reuven Malter is an orthodox Jew. In addition, Reuven has a great friend named Danny Saunders. Danny and Reuven meet at a baseball game between the Orthodox Jews and the Hasidic Jews. Even though other team mates think of Danny and his team as “Murderers,” Reuven decides to not judge them before he notices their character. After Danny injures Reuven during the game, the two become best friends. Reuven Malter shows numerous admiral character traits throughout the book, however, the three most prominent in the story consist of kind, fair, and admirable.…
Hillary Clinton uses her emotional appeal (pathos) by trying to persuade her audience that she has a good heart and that she really does actually care about our country. Majority of that time that she spoke she used the word “We”. This make you feel as if everybody acts as one and that everyone is united together. “What kind of country “(we)” want to be”, “what kind of future “(we’ll)” build”, ““(we)” have to build an economy”, and ““(we)” need new jobs” were all things that came from out of Hillary’s mouth during this debate. She also tries to show her caring emotions by going on to say she knows the difficult choices that people have to face and the stress that it put people under. This gives the people that feeling of someone who understands…
It was a competitive election for Barack Obama and John McCain. This election would determine the fate of many lives during the economic downfall that the United States was facing. In 2008, Michelle Obama spoke at the Democratic Convention about her husband Barack Obama. The election was Barack Obama against John McCain. The well known woman wanted to bring attention to how her husband is a strong leader. She uses strategies like pathos through imagery, repetition, and language to persuade the American people to vote for her husband to become the next president of the United States.…
The first time I met Anastasija was not quite the first time she ‘met’ me. In particular, before starting her high school education at NOVA International Schools, I had heard of Anastasija and her interests through my contact with one of her cousins, Ms. Bela Gligorova, who was my guidance counselor at that time. I was introduced to Anastasija in person in December 2010, right after I finished my college applications. An inquisitive young mind, a polite and thoughtful person, Anastasija’s curiosity and questions about my college application process and my high school accomplishments, struck me as novelty, since Anastasija was only in seventh grade at the time.…
It’s Monday, December 9th. Today just seems unusual, like something big is going to happen! I wonder what it will be for a split second, then go back to studying for the Latin America quiz we have tomorrow. Mr. Fielder announces what questions we should highlight on our worksheets. I watch him go back to his desk. I look up and out the window, I see the glistening shimmer of fresh snow dancing in the sky. I cherish every second of it, wishing the time would go by slower. As time creeps closer to 12:20 p.m., the more I shudder at the thought of having to go to room 224. I finish making my flashcards, using splendid handwriting, and proper spelling and grammar. The clock whispers 12:18 p.m. in my ear, I turn white as a ghost.…
The day has finally come; it’s the last day of cheer. After days of constant cheering, dancing and stunting, it was the day either for my dreams to be crushed or for them the come true. I couldn’t decide what to wear, what to expect, whether to wear a bow or not. My life is a hot mess at the moment. I am freaking out. I’m giving my self a pep talk trying to get my life together. Then all of a sudden I thought, “What am I talking about I am not confident in myself.” That is big problem because the whole point of being a cheerleader you need to confident and positive. “What did I get myself into?” “Why did I even tryout?” “None of the girls are going to accept me on the team.” Then I looked at the time. I had thirty minutes till I had to be there. I had nothing to wear, and I haven’t done my hair.…
